As an aside to the Op, or relating to this discussion, one of the real problems we have is that we are living too long. The period from when we quit being productive to the country to when we die is too great. no one could have foreseen this and ethically we don't know what to do about it.

It's too short

In what sense do you think is too short? Philosophically? Certainly not financially!

They certainly haven't shown that they can create developed western societies to compete with other super powers. All of this is made possible by the welfare state and illegal immigration.

We need more leisure years, not less.

We want more. That is a concept that really didn't exist for the masses until the middle of the 20th century. I guess it would be nice if everyone that worked for 30 years got 30 at the end to go with the 20+ at the beginning but I don't think it is financially feasible.

The moral decay that stretches across all generations is ruining the American way of life.
I still say women entering the work force and allowing there kids to raise themselves is the single largest contributor to the erosions of our morals.
High divorce rates are a close 2nd.
It’s really no wonder milineals boys don’t know what sex they are and want to have their penis’s removed.

This is also responsible for the high cost of housing, etc.
Each successive generation gets softer however. The nanny state is coming

Fine. Those kids you got, they go to school? On roads? When you were in that plane crash, did you get any help? Hospital? You heat your domicile with fuel, how?
I understand your view and share it to an extent, but the discussion is not just about you.

I was all set to retire at 55 until Obama made my health care affordable.

It's odd, I don't much care for drugs (pharm. or otherwise, except booze), don't care about going to the doctor and hope me and mine stay that way. But dang, when we pay a grand a month premium, I'm inclined to try and use it. Feels like I'm being wasteful or being taken advantage of.
Short-sightedly, Mrs LCA and I never thought about retirement much. Good thing too, cause it ain't gonna happen.

I'm stuffing my accounts, you bet I'm retiring.

I bet you’re still on the Dad you saw every other weekend health care plan?

Ok. It can be of you want to ignore the 5 questions I asked you before you cherry-picked this phrase.
Look, we are drifting from the OP... we could have an open-ended far-ranging discussion regarding the political philosophy behind the original United States versus what we have now but that should be in another thread.
