That's about a total of 10 seconds and it's not like the event is going to start without going through the motions. I am not pulling over on a divided road for a mile long procession when I did not know the person.

I know for one, my meme was very comforted to see everyone stop for my papaw when he died. So to say people aren't comforted is just stupid.

Ok buddy.

Just saying....not everyone shares you opinion on this and it is silly to expect them to.

When my grandparents passed, I could have cared less if a bunch of strangers sat on the shoulder of the road.

But I tend to lean to practicality of things and rational instead of emotions in making decisions.

Jeenus, being quiet at a football game for one minute does not endanger anyone else's safety.

Stopping a motor vehicle in a live traffic lane when the people driving behind you have no idea that you are going to make an unreasonable hazard for them endangers the public safety.

During moments of silence...you know who you are honoring. Not someone you have no idea who they were or what they did. but just happened to pass by on the road.

What if the deceased you were stopping for to "respect" was Jeffrey Dahmer, John Wayne Gacy, Charles Manson or some other POS?

As you can see, it's not real bright to respect strangers.

I didn't know a single person who died in 9/11 but the week after had moments of silence for them. Did you not?

Absolutely. Again I knew what happened to them. I understood they were victims of great evil and because of that I honored them.

I have reason to honor them because I have knowledge of what happened to them.

Passing by a funeral procession of some complete stranger who I have no knowledge of is a random occurrence that shouldn't require me to show faux respect.

I was in a funeral procession in Mobile AL recently and over half of the oncoming traffic stopped. It was quite moving. I will do this in the future.

Respect is something you earn in life not something given out arbitrarily.

What is special about a sign of respect if it is given to everyone automatically?

I'll continue to pull over as a sign of respect on the off chance the person wasn't a serial killer.

Personally, I think there is more than one definition of respect but I don't want to get into a debate on semantics.

Huge safety hazard on a busy street. Fine if you live in a podunk town with 10 cars on the road.

When I die....if you see my Funeral Procession and you want to stop because you respect of how I lived my life as a Son, Husband, Father, or Man by all means that respect is meaningful.

If you are stopping because it is customary then that is meaningless and lessens the actual show of true respect.

I actually haven't seen one in a few years. I saw them a lot more often in the south. I've also never seen one on the interstate. I wouldn't pull over for that if I was in the opposite lane.

Saw one on a really busy interstate not too long ago. It would have been dangerous for everyone around me if I tried to pull over

Showing respect for the deceased and their loved ones, I pull over and stop and offer a prayer every time if I'm able...to pull over.

The major part of it, as soccerfut pointed out, is to pull over and not stopping in a traffic lane, to prevent the need for another procession in the near future.

Well yeah obviously I wouldn't stop on i75. However I stop if it's a two lane or even 4 lane road. And most people do as well around here.

I was going to post about this yesterday.

Funeral procession traveling down a divided 4 lane highway, with divided 6 ft grass median. Im traveling north, funeral procession is traveling south bound, and I'll be damned if the idiots on my side didn't stop dead in the middle of the fricking road. I just swerved around them and kept going.
