I know people who text me to talk about sad or serious things, but also put little emoji faces. I mean, seems kind of childish.

It's because texting is an awful medium of communication for conveying tone, mood, etc.

I like when old people confuse LOL and ttyl bullshite. I know people who thought LOL meant "Lots of Love". That's fine and good until you see, "I will be praying for you in this time of loss, LOL". It went on for quite a while until someone told them.
