re: Do You Agree Corporal Punishment (Spanking) Is Barbaric When You Think About It?

I think Corporal Punishment works. Look at the Asian kids and how they turn out. China is also a rising power that might overshadow us someday.
Maybe people shouldn't be cuddle anymore.

Just look at behavior at the average high school in the last 50 years as corporal punishment was phased out.
Poverty existed 50 years ago. Sure the family units implosion adds to the deterioration but removal of some arse whooping is key.
Hell, remember when St Aug removed it and the STUDENTS were pissed.

..It ain't the spankings or lack off affecting their imprisonment rates.

Hell, my two kids didn't come with a owners manual.

All i'm saying is it obviously doesn't work as well as people in this thread think.

How do you discipline your kids?
BTW... do you know what the word "agenda" means?

GOT ME! not that has anything to do with my statement.

What? I just asked how you discipline your kids since you're stating that spanking doesn't work that well. I'm just trying to see what you base your opinion on.

Actually, it does.

That's not what the charts suggest.
There isn't all that much variance in spanking among race except for Asians (and that's probably because their culture already fosters and puts a premium on obedience, so it isn't as necessary).
But there is a tremendous amount of variance in imprisonment rates.
Sure, some of this stems from the (admittedly unequal) way the legal system works, but mainly because of the destruction of the black family and the emasculation of the black father via social welfare programs and the damnable "Great Society" to keep them dependent on the gov't.
I won't quote what LBJ said here for fear of being banned but it's easily searchable.
Disgusting really.

And as I've already stated, it works certain situations and becomes ineffective as a child gets older. Also depends on the child, as a parent you realize what makes your kid tick a you can use that against them. The same punishment for my teenage son certainly isn't going to work for my grade school daughter also goes for my toddler. You learn to adjust to what suits them or really gets to them most. Any parent with reasonable intelligence can figure this out.

What a fricking idiot

Every kid is different. What works to discipline one, another will laugh at. My son cracks up and has fun being in timeout. Yours might be horrified being in timeout.

Nah man you got to check the graphs. And the people who did research on raising kids.

I see. And what's the agenda of these people who made that graph?

Exactly... If I take my teenage sons tablet, phone and ps4 you'd think his world ended..

We can go ahead and end this thread on this note.
Any research that anyone will be able to find is going to paint way too broad a picture to draw any day-to-day parenting advice from.
The research basically says "Spanking is bad!"
Well, OK, does the research account for ALL of the minutiae, details, and circumstances that go into the day-to-day parenting and disciplining of a child? Unless the researchers are literally keeping families under 24-hour observation for years on end, they can only make broad conclusions.
