Yes, and I was one of those dumbasses that paid $8,500 for a 42" plasma
I bought a 32 inch for close to 1000 with Bush bucks back in 2008.
The first “HD” thing we ever watched was the 2008 Olympic opening ceremonies. Was pretty mind blowing at the time.

I replaced my Panasonic plasma a couple years ago with a Sony OLED, which has all the benefits of plasma.
I'm using my old 2007 1080p 50" plasma as a third tv in my media room . It's not as good as my 77" Sony OLED but it holds its own when watching sports.
I also have an old 42" 720p plasma in my garage gym. This one isn't nearly as good but it works well for that spot.

Was in COSTCO the other day, and there was some obnoxious 82" or so TV in there that wasn't an inch thick for maybe $1500...just started laughing at how far that's come.
Imagine how far other things could come in this country as well if they were allowed to operate freely.

My first “adult” purchase was a 37 inch LED from Best Buy in 2007. I think it was $3700 if I remember correctly. All my friends thought I was rich! Little did they know I put it on a Best Buy credit card and payed for it monthly! lol

I know someone that paid $7k for a sony 42 plasma tv. It croaked but was covered by warranty.
I bought a maranzt cdr615 for $2500 back in the late 90.
It was a piece of shite. When it worked it made great recordings.

Still have two fine Panasonic Plasmas.
A 50-inch ($1200) from 2009 that’s in my guest room. And a top of the line 2011 65-inch ($3300) that’s hanging in my bedroom. It was replaced in the den by a 77-inch 2021 Sony OLED ($3500). It too is a great TV.
I now want a new top notch 83-inch Sony OLED for the den. Problem is that neither Pany plasma will give up their spaces.
Look too great to replace. Sports are still stunning and occasional porn looks great on the plasmas, too.
Guess I’m over compensating.

Yes and I still miss my Panasonic that I bought in 2012 which was maybe the last year they were made. Nothing made today looks as good until you get up to the very high end OLED models.
I bought a 55 inch Panasonic plasma in 2010. picture was incredible up until she died a few years ago.

I paid $1600 for my Panasonic Viera 60ST60 about 10 years ago, still enjoying it today with no issues.

As others have said. I still love my plasma. And it really helps keep things warm during the winter.

I have a Panasonic Plasma TV in my game room/ kids play room that was purchased in 2006 by my best friend. It was his plasma TV he had in his college apartment.
My first purchase after I built a house back in 2010 was a 59” Samsung.
It shite the bed in 2016. My buddy and I had planned an LSU football game watch party, and I told him my TV went out. He said, well I have this old as dirt plasma in my garage on the floor. I’ll bring it. He said he didn’t know if it still worked.
Well it did and it still does. What a champion unit.
Edit* and that bastard is heavy.

Not sure what year, but I went from a squarish projection TV to a Samsung 52" LCD TV. The TV was heavy (compared to todays models) and cost me a fortune. I think it was between $3000-4000.
To this day that was the most satisfying purchase I've ever made. Just went out about a year ago.
