You seem to be in a bit of a mood today on the board. I'm enjoying it.

Social media ala FB and Twitter is used for the following:

1. Posting achievements that make you look good (winning or placing in a race; a pay raise; a modeling contest, etc...etc.)

2. Showing vacation pics to draw envy and even adoration from your "friends".

3. Trying to display your monetary achievements via new car, expensive vacation, child's lifestyle, or trying to outdo someone.

4. Posting a moment that arouses symapathy and hopeful care such as deaths or illnesses.

Social media is ruining myself and you. My parents went on vacations in 3 continents and took lots of pics from 85 to 95. They have a photo album. The moments of greatness are preserved among the family. If they were doing this ttoday? It would be so all could simply feel envy. ENVY.

I’m not that cynical about FB, but yeah there are a lot of humble brags.

Don't use social media

I created a FB account back in 2008 or 2009. First year I would log in and check it off and on, much more so the first few months. Caught up with a a bunch of old high school and college friends - it was fun.

Sorta quit using it after several months. Had already done all the catching up, though I would log in still at least once or twice a week.

Started dating a girl the next year that was all about it, this would be 2010 I think. After barely paying attention to it for a year or two in two weeks I realized the only thing the girl I just started seeing was trying to do is impress people. All the damn time. 24/7. And it was a circle jerk with her and a few friends. Noticed practically everyone else was doing the same.

That was almost 10 years ago and I still have my FB account but have logged in less than 10 times since then, last time was 2-3 years ago. Dont have any other social media accounts. Just not interested.

LinkedIN is for posers and frauds. Most of the people on LinkedIN inflate their credentials.

How about the transplants in New Orleans from up north who suddenly become ultimate yat and wax poetically about McKenzies and Schweggmans as if they shopped there.

THE Bywater Bc adding an unnecessary “the” makes them feel more local

That's a huge pet peeve of mine. The Picayune reporters even started using it. Whenever I hear it, I start saying things like "the Uptown" and "the City Park.". These faux yats probably look down on true yats anyway.

Honestly it's not just us. This shite is prevalent everywhere, and it's sickening.

I swear Asians (east Asia) are far worse than us. I've never seen so many people taking selfies at ridiculous times than over there.

Social media is truly an epidemic that needs to be looked at.

When I went to India the amount of selfies I saw was crazy. You had people taking selfies in the middle of busy walkways, in front of random people, and fricking parking garages. I swear some of them were taking selfies like every 2 minutes.
