I do. It's important for a simple potato salad, too. Potatoes, mayo, salt, pepper, eggs and a little creole mustard. No crunchy stuff.

I've done it a few times with a small, side bowl of gumbo. Also, had a deviled and boiled egg added the same way.
I'm finicky with potato salad, however. I only like it warm not cold and nothing else added to it such as sweet pickles, etc. Just the basics.

Yes. Grew up in north La., and my family has always had potato salad with gumbo, with a scoop added to the bowl. Not many others around here do. My parents picked it up when living in Abbeville and Ville Platte.
