Do telemarketers believe we would want to buy their product if they use deception?

I'm referring to telemarketers using a fake caller ID, such as a made up name or phony phone number similar to our number, when they call us?
"Sure, you lied about who you are to get me answer but let me buy your extended car warranty insurance!"
We now average two extended warranty sales calls/day. There must be a lot of profit in those warranties.

These aren't people calling you, they're computers. Very little cost to run.
If per chance you press 1 or say yes, it will call a person who will try to sell you.

They are usually well aware that most people will not answer or not fall for their shite. They only worried about the 2 or 3% who will actually answer and fall for it.

What are the chances youd answer if caller I’d said “extended car insurance telemarketer”? If you answer none, it’s a successful approach.

Its a numbers game. They wouldnt do it if it didnt make them money. Its really preying on the elderly. Eventually it will die out when Gen X and later become elderly.

Witnessed my buddy fricking with one of them last week. Once she realized what was happening, bitch had the audacity to accuse my friend of "wasting her time." I was floored a scammer thought so highly of their time.

Shooters shoot. It's a volume operation. If their automated dialer makes a thousand calls an hour, and ten of them pick up, and one of them buys something, there's their profit. Some people are not mentally capable of making their own decisions. Others are so lonely they'll talk to anybody, even a telemarketer.

I'm sure the hangups and no answers are 99 of 100esque. There's always that 1. These dopes would find a new game to play if this had no success.
I do think they're idiots to call me if my number is 333-4444 and on the caller ID, their number is 333-3444. Do they think we do not have wives' and kids' phone numbers already programmed in?
