re: Do people without children worry about dying old and alone?

I don't think they have to worry about that, because there are a lot of childless people now. For awhile, the old folks homes will be hopping.
The real problem with not having kids, from a societal perspective, is that a big reason for caring about the future, that almost everyone used to share, will not be present in their lives.

If I ask someone why they don't have kids or when they are going to have them. I am not being mean it means I think they would be great parents. I have found people get mad about me asking this but I always considered it a compliment.
Hard to keep up with insecurities these days.

I understand where you're coming from. Family member had similar situation. Joke was in poor taste. Apologies.

This world is hopeless. Look at our presidential candidates ffs. There no economy good enough to out-breed the rest of the world. The Chinese will take over the world in a few decades. Terrorism is only going to get worse. The economy will get worse as resources become more thinly distributed amongst an exploding population.
Why would anyone want to bring any children into that mess?

I have never gotten mad at it myself and don't know of any of my other friends that have gotten mad.
But I do know friends that have suffered several miscarriages and are still childless that always dread when people ask the "so when you having kids" question. They get that people are just making conversation and all and aren't necessarily offended...but it's just a little bit painful each time it's asked.

I'm both spouseless and childless. I am not worried about dying alone. I have nieces and a nephew. If I can make the inheritance big enough, they'll be there for me.
If you sew love in the world, you will reap love, whether or not you have a spouse or children. Peace be with you!

No apologies needed, you had no idea.

Well we can't see the future, but it certainly looks bleaker if good people stop reproducing.

.I know a lot of people dont want kids because of the responsibility it requires. So who is going to be there at the end if the spouse passes?
Having kids doesn't necessarily mean they will "be there" in your older years. Why do you think convalescent homes are so successful?

honestly, you are pretty lucky if you live to be old and everyone dies alone...even if you have loved ones that are thinking about you when it happens. that is a journey that you have to walk alone.
I have actually thought about this a bit from time to time through the years and the money that you save by not having a family actually makes it pretty manageable to pay health care providers to sit with you, etc. I am not really comfortable with the idea of being that big a burden on my loved ones, so having the cash to take care of myself at the end of life suits me fine.

Not to be too depressing, but pretty much everyone dies alone
Posted on 7/6/16 at 10:26 pm to mpar98
Plenty of people with kids end up dying alone
Posted on 7/6/16 at 10:27 pm to mpar98
I'd suggest worrying about death after you die

Kids give your life purpose and make you become a man.
That narrow-minded line of thinking is why I come to TigerDroppings! So it took for you to have kids to become a man? That sounds like something stay-at-home moms said in the 70's to lay a guilt trip on men who didn't want to marry and have kids.
