Hipster/instagram bullshite.

Much of the 5am crowd are no doubt, those people. Especially considering you can walk up at 10am and be pretty much guaranteed they aren't running out of their main items or even better, pre-order if the quantity is large enough.

That said, the quality of food that a select few of these places (most have been mentioned here) is without a doubt, next level. I have eaten a ton of gumbo and cant begin to make a top 10 list of the places/peoples homes that would differentiate it from others. While not easy to make, it is simple enough to perfect it to a level that makes, one say its the "best gumbo I have in ages".

I have eaten a lot of beef barbq as well and when I got it from some of these places listed, years later I can distinctly remember where I had it, and realize it was a whole level better than the others. Until you have eaten it, there is no way to describe out good it is.

The good thing about these hipster/instagram clowns is they have infused enough money and interest into the market that newer places are popping up and raising the bar for everyone.

Dammit. This entire thread has me breaking out in the meat sweats now.

I’ve done both multiple times and I don’t think they’re comparable but to each his own

try about 10:30-11AM on a weekday then. the work lunch crowd will certainly create a line out the door and longer.

Also add in the clusterfrick that is trying to park in Old Town Spring.

People waking up a 5am for an event...how is that not the same? People can spend their time how they want to. Some people drink for 12 hours then attend half of a football game. Some people wait for BBQ.

One is required to get the end result. The other is not. They aren’t the same.

I’m calling Bs there’s not something in your life you wouldn’t waist 5h for. Or have an expensive hobby which is just time traded for money.

Let people do what they want with their money and time. And you do you.

This is the response of an a-hole.

Hell, if I ever found myself in Texas I'd probably wait 5 hours for some good brisket. I can think of worse things you can do for five hours besides shoot the shite and drink beer. You could be waiting in line at an Apple store like a retard.

So you don't have to get to the campus/stadium early to get to the game and be at the event? Seems like it's required to get there for the end result. Same as waiting in line to get the best BBQ.

Both involve drinking beer while waiting, and both end up involving good food if you have a good tailgate

No you don’t. You don’t have to tailgate at all in order to go to a football game. You can go straight to the stadium and walk in and watch the game. Maybe you’ll have to wait in line for a bit, but definitely not five hours. I’ve never waited in a line for longer than about 30 minutes to go to any sporting event. The tailgating is an extra party event before the game that’s not required. And get this, you can even get in, AFTER the game starts.

If you want to get this unicorn bbq, you have to get there and wait in line to ensure they don’t run out of food.

They'll even let you in after kickoff

You can get into a BBQ place after the line too. You just miss part of the event, exactly...like a football game

Wait you're telling me that from door to door you've never waited longer than 30 minutes to get into a sports event? Maybe you need to go to bigger games than the local YMCA 6pm basketball league. It can take hours just to park, walk to the stadium and get in before kickoff.

Do you not understand why people tailgate for hours before a big sporting event? It's the same reason they wait 5 hours for BBQ. Because they can, and they want to

Like I said I’ve done both and your comparison was terrible, at least compared to an LSU tailgate. Deal with it

I miss living on campus. Watching a game. Seeing them win them walk over and go in at halftime. Back when (Dinardo years) it was super easy to get in.

There’s a chance you don’t get any food at all though. So you don’t miss “part of the event.” There’s a chance you miss the event entirely. You don’t know when that time will be when food will run out. You know roughly your time window for a sporting event.

nobody is tracking door to door here for this bbq discussion. You have to wait in line for five hours to maybe get the food you want, not guaranteed. Get in line, wait five hours, maybe get the items you want. Nobody waits in line to get into any sporting event for five hours.

I have called an Uber for a noon Saints game before at about 11:15. Got dropped off at 11:30 and was in my seat before kickoff.

You’re just playing ignorant.

You can’t be serious lol. Nobody tailgates to make their line waiting shorter. People tailgate because it is a voluntary, added fun feature to going to a game. Waiting in line for five hours to maybe get the bbq you want is not an added feature to getting bbq. It’s a requirement.

Can you go into detail about why this was light years better?

It was a warm spread of succulent, moist, tender and aromatic piece of heaven. Kind of like my first time having bbq.
