That must be pretty difficult to do. Most GMO products are commercial crops.

What I mean is when a product specifically advertises that it is non-gmo then I look for an alternative.

The reason for huge increase in population is the introduction of oil/natural gas into the equation.

But, I agree with you on GMOs. We need to feed 7 billion plus people somehow. As long as the stories of Monsanto controlling populations by using their seeds aren't true, I don't really care.

The wind and the bees pollinating crops unbeknownst to someone is improper usage? Gotcha.

but there are cases in which a non-sterilized GMO strain has populated the fields of a non-GMO one and the farmer of the latter has been brought to court for improper usage.

Most of the cases are brought upon farmers or seed suppliers knowingly infringing on patents.

Trace amounts will happen, Bayer, Syngenta realize this. Hell, Monsanto was even offering to pay for lost production on these trace amounts.

There's a vast difference between 1% and 95% of crops exhibiting patented technology within a field.

To my knowledge, they have mostly corrected the problem, and have made essentially sterile seeds that require year-to-year purchasing.

exactly does it frick them over? if you developed something wouldn't you want to make money off of it? when the seed is bought you sign a contract that you won't keep any for seed.

That's not what gets them. It's when a small farmer doesn't use the gmo seed and a farmer next to him does, and natural cross pollination occurs in the wild from wind/insects. Monsanto or whoever will then sue that small farmer over intellectual property theft and bankrupt him if they find any trace of their strain on his land.

There never was, or is, a problem.

Sterile technology is available, but not used.

Most farmers purchase new seeds every year.

Farmers and seed suppliers are old school.

They don't like being told to buy new shite or new technology.

They like dealing with the same people on a continual basis.

'If it's not broke, don't fix it' mentality.

I can only imagine the head spinning when GMO seeds were being brought to market. And still to this day.

do they have stipulations on how far they are supposed to plant from non gmo crops? it probably has more to do with that. If they are able to win in court over this they probably had something in a contract about necessary distance to plant from regular crops. I worked on farms for years farmers ain't stupid. For all I know the farmer could have been trying to get cross pollination to happen to weasel around the contract.

I want my bread with gluten and I want my veggies genetically modified. Because I'm genetically modified. Modified by the cosmos to be both exceedingly masculine, yet remarkably beautiful.

Past studies have shown that at a distance of 200 feet from a source of pollen, the concentration of pollen averaged only 1% compared with the pollen samples collected about 3 feet from the pollen source (Burris, 2002). The number of outcrosses is reduced in half at a distance of 12 feet from a pollen source, and at a distance of 40 to 50 feet, the number of outcrosses is reduced by 99%.

This is a very small majority of farmers, most are trying to make as much product as they can so they can sell more and prosper. This sounds like something someone who has only seen farmers on tv would say. I know many farmers that were fighting to get experimental crops to see if it made more corn and soybeans.

you pretend all genetic modifications are the same. they are not. i have 0 problems with them altering things to interact with myccorhizal fungi better, but doing it to deal with glyophosate better, not so much.

I'd love to buy food that was labeled "Proudly Made With GMOs." I'd also love to see some heads explode over it.

Very much true, has happened many times. The whole intent is to make a legalized monopoly (granted government intervention is the only way one can exist).
