Guy who used to be a coworker of mine was volunteering at a place that serves meals to the homeless last weekend...he is a very funny guy who is always messing with everyone. He was behind the counter in the serving line and a homeless man came through and asked "what's good on the menu today?"

My ex-cworker jokingly said "well I've got a couple of knuckle sandwiches with your name on them mack! Mayo or mustard?" Then he made a joking boxers pose while he was laughing and pretending to shadow box.

The guy laughed and got his soup and moved on.

After he was seated the volunteer coordinator tapped the ex-coworker on the shoulder and told him he needed to leave because that is not the kind of operation they run there.

Everyone knows that you need to be morose while slapping food on trays for the homeless so that they can't experience any amount of joy due to their station in life.

Should've fed that coordinator that knuckle sandwich.

These don't really go together.
Maybe the coordinator just couldn't handle any more lame jokes

It's a smart joke and a smart crowd would appreciate it. You are a too cool for school chad.

What exactly about the joke makes it smart? Like specifically, which aspect of it?

I never understood this one. All the celebrities used to tell be to be cool, stay in school; so how is it possible to be too cool for school when school IS cool?

Why are you talking to people you don't even have to work with anymore?

Sounds like the volunteer and homeless guy might have known each other and it was an inside joke. Like the homeless guy was known to be jokingly sarcastic about the quality of the food, and the guy jokingly responded in a "get outta here" kind of way.

sounds a lot like an old dago boss i had working as a kid in a meat market. Anytime someone asked "what you giving away?" he'd say "black eyes and busted asses, which one you want?".

Is this a scene from a 50's movie?

Bitchy coordinator aside, if someone pulled that "joke" on me, I'd look at them like they were mentally handicapped.

Sounds like something an uncle would say/do to his 7-year-old nephew.

The joke was lame, but I see no reason for him to have been thrown out.
