Good Lord all I wanted to do today was look at some laptops, had no intention of buying one today, the main reason I went in was to just get a feel for the size and weights of the various laptops I was looking at.

But man I was asked by at least a dozen employees if I needed help even though I was just looking and then when I found a laptop I was very interested in I kept telling the guy helping me I wasn't buying today but he kept up the pressure on me similar to how a used car salesman would hound you.

They wanted you to leave the store. They just couldn’t come out and say that exactly

Spreadsheet szn

Can Texas st hit the over for win total?

I bought a PS4 last summer and felt the same way. They don’t have much inventory but tons of employees. Maybe they just want something to do? First time I had been in a Best Buy in years. No more cds or car audio stuff.

That's the one thing that stood out to me was just how many employees they had there. It was fairly busy today but so many employees which made me think the only way they can afford that labor payroll is by having them on commission.

I'm not even going to buy my laptop in store, I'll be doing it online through the manufacturer because I will be going the custom configuration route

No but the Direct TV guy at costco does and he aggravates the hell out of me every single time. You’d think he’d remember the multiple times I’ve told him no.

In theory this sounds plausible. I hear Best Buy does really well financially with geek squad and home theatre installations. I want to say they had 3 people in just the gaming section when I went. I was only buying. Just take me to the thing imma grab it. I believe they only had 2 consoles. Maybe cut costs thru inventory mgmt?

It's like they have a go to response for any excuse you tell them as to why you aren't interested

I just flat out ignore them now.

I tell him I’m already a customer and start complaining loudly about my service and ask for freebies. Always works.

They are sales people. Better than them not helping.

Usually when I go to best buy it's hard to find someone to help with what I need. More times then not I have to track them down or leave because no one sends anyone over after asking for help.

Side note, was taken back awhile back when I found out they don't sell CDs anymore. I don't go into Best Buy often though, and not too surprised.

Best Buy employees don’t work on commission but watch out for brand vendors that dress like employees but actually work for HP, Dell, etc

They will push their product and they do make commission. Many times they will wear a Best Buy shirt with their company logo on it.

Yeah there was an HP person there today who was actually helpful and no pressure. It was the blue shirt Best Buy employee who was high pressure.

I went in to look at the in person size/weight difference between the 15.6 inch laptops and 13 inch laptops. Basically you have to choose between performance or size. Left the store with the aim to buy a 13.3 inch, 15.6 is just too big and I prefer more portability over performance. I can do the performance stuff on my desktop.

My Surface Pro 3 finally crapped out on me after 4 years

Ex BBY Employee (Computer Department Sup) here.

It's their job to "UP" you within a certain time frequency of you walking into their department.

Bonuses ride on Customer Service KPI's that people DO take their time to fill out when they have a good time and when they have a bad time.

I've been out of the loop for over 4 years now but when Microsoft and Samsung bought floorspace we were given a budget to allocate 2-3 individuals to be "Experts." They were sent to vendor-specific training for multiple weeks and came back to the store to sell those products specifically, but still help overall in the department. They were not commission based. THere were Samsung reps that were third party and were not on BBY payroll.

Another thing to consider is if you walked into a District Store or worse a Territory Store, these behaviours were executed 100% of the time.

Back then BBY had issues with people walking in the store to see the product but then going to buy on Amazon. It seems the company has overcome that to a certain degree.

No...if they were on commission they probably wouldn't hound you. Anyone in modern sales knows you can't hound and pressure anymore. You have to "befriend" the customer and be a resource, not an annoyance. Sales changed a lot in the last fifteen years. Pressure doesn't work anymore. You still push the sale, but you don't push the person.

I worked at Best Buy in college and don’t blame the floor employees. The managers hounded us about always helping someone and pushing the Best Buy credit card like a used car salesman. If we weren’t helping someone we had to do inventory and inventory sucks so we’d rather talk our heads off.

The guy definitely pushed the credit card on me even after I said I would be buying cash
