I have been sick since wed night and today have felt somewhat alive at least but still not great.
Started with fever, sore throat and cough, aches and pains and in bed all day. Now its just headaches and kinda runny nose and maybe slight fever.
Been taking ibuprofen 800mg and drinking lots of fluids and ed hist.
Have some antibiots, will those help?

no. Antibiotics are for bacterial infections. if you have a cold or flu, you have a virus

You had the flu.
No antibiotics don't kill viruses.

Not really. But proper grammar might help you get a better job.

Don't doctors still prescribe antibiotics, even when they know their patients have a virus?

Haha hardly. Got that covered. But thanks for your continued interest in my well being.

Only in Alabama.

I will keep that in mind if I ever have a need.

Yes, they claim that they're treating secondary bacterial infections brought on by the hacking and coughing associated with the flu. Actually they're just trying to get the screaming parents and kids out of their offices. And to make a buck, of course.

No. Antibiotics will not help a virus. They only serve to make drug resistant bacteria stronger.

Tell your doctor you want Obecalp. It'll knock out what's making you sick in a day or two. Do not leave unless he writes you a prescription. Be insistent.

No.
Antibiotics no use flu virus.
There are 3 products that do help. Tamiflu

They don’t make any money off writing someone a script. It’s because unfortunately we have a know it all population and medicine has become a customer service driven industry. People are given antibiotics when they don’t need them because they throw a fricking fit, tell the doctor they don’t know what they’re doing and threaten to complain. It’s easier for the doc to just write them a script and get them the frick out.

An article by a couple of docs.
What to Do if You Have the Flu
What to Do if You Have the Flu

Flu care mostly consists of supportive measures like fluids and rest and over-the-counter medications.
Ibuprofen (like Motrin) usually makes people feel better than Tylenol. “Prescription strength" ibuprofen is 800 mg (four over-the-counter 200 mg tablets) taken every eight hours, and that’s the best thing to take, unless you have an ulcer. Take with food or milk or an antacid.
Tamiflu reduces symptoms by an average of one to one and a half days .... It is also ineffective after 24 to 48 hours of symptom onset.
Do not request a Z-Pack. Antibiotics do not help a virus and risk giving you antibiotic-associated diarrhea, and you don’t want that.

Why do you have antibiotics laying around?
If you were previously prescribed antibiotics for an infection...you should have completed the whole course of antibiotics in order to properly kill the infection.
If you just took them until you "felt better"....you didn't properly kill the infection. You just gave the bacteria a blueprint on how to become more resistant to the antibiotics you were taking.
