I need to renew my drivers license and I need to change the address on my ID so I have to go in. What time is best to go, first thing in the morning or around lunch?

There is no good time. But for sure don’t go at the start or end of the month.

Get there 30 minutes prior to them opening. It sucks to do that, but you will be in and out. Do not go around lunch!

In Houston we have it figured out.

You can renew online, or go online and set up an appointment. They will send you a text when you're 30 minutes from your time, update you if there's a slip, and another text when you're about 15 minutes out.

When you get there there are flat screens everywhere with your number, what booth you are scheduled for, who is in front of you, and how long you have. There are about 40 booths.

I was in and out of there two weeks ago in under 20 minutes.

I've done this numerous times and I guarantee you'll be out in 35 minutes. Go 5 minutes prior to them locking the door. At my local one, they close at 4pm and all the employees get off at 4:30. At about 4:05, employees file in out the woodwork to help clear out the remaining customers.

Like clockwork, every time. State is broke and they dont pay OT, so they have to actually work the last 30 minutes.

I did both of these at a title place. Costs prob $20 more but you are there 15 minutes total.

But if you absolutely have to go to DMV, go at the end of the day. If you are there before they close, they have to take you and do a fire drill to get everyone out after they lock the door.

Never. Go to a notary that does it and get it done for $10 more in twelve seconds.

I go to the port allen location or one of those privately run express locations in BR. I get to the one in port allen at 7:45 (opens at 8) and am out by 8:15

When I was in NOLA I would always drive to the La Place DMV to escape Metairie/Kenner DMV hell. I would rather drive 30 minutes than wait in line.

Went around lunch one day, 3 hours later I was done. It was hell.

It's also easier to drive 20-30 mins to a smaller or rural DMV office and get it done there.

Whenever I've had to go to the OMV on Independence, I've gotten there before they opened and waited in line. That's the best time I've figured to go.

First thing in the morning, get there about 30 minutes early, go to the main office.

Or pay the extra fees and go to the express DMV.

In Houston your DMV probably has humans working there.
