A little late to this thread but wanted to share.

Last year the city put in a new speed bump on the road in front of our place. Pretty big bump too.

They also didn't mark it at all with warnings or road paint etc.

For 2 months after installations I would hear cars all day and night taking the speed bump way too fast, getting air, and landing hard and scratching or outright breaking off pieces of their car.

At night, the speed bump was basically invisible.

Really insane that they installed a speed bump then didn't put markings until months afterward.

I know someone who did this in BR. City/Parish removed it ASAP.

The person could have requested one but just went ahead and did it. Tracks because the person is an a-hole.

I can't remember exactly where, think off Government, there was a street with speed humps. We used to jump them in our trucks. I say this to say, assholes like us will do a-hole things if you make a hump and not a bump.

There are probably other streets as well, but I know Kenwood (north of Government) has several of them.

The city doesn't fix potholes, so why should it worry about a hump?

I was going to say for OP to use a pick and dig a bunch of holes in the pavement. If its like here in Tuscaloosa they will never get filled.

Problem solved.

You should have set up a camera. People love videos like that.

How much trouble do you think someone could get in by installing a speed bump on a public road without permission from the city (BR)?

Just do it in secret in the middle of the night.

Now he's on record so he can't.

Speed humps, breakers, sleeping policeman, whatever the frick you call them, are best taken at or slightly above the speed limit. Even small, low to the ground cars will simply bounce over them with almost no notice at all. Slowing down to a crawl makes them a huge pain in the arse and hitting them at excessive speeds is not a good idea but if its a 35 and you hit them at 45 most cars just skip right over them without any noticeable impact. I learned this years ago driving a stiff suspension F250 pickup. I would slow down to a crawl going over them and it would nearly sling you out of the truck. I hit one that was not marked one night about 10 over the speed limit and just as I hit it I saw it and thought "this ain't good". Nothing more than about the same shock as hitting a reflector in the road....seriously, if you ain't tried it it is the least annoying way to deal with them, especially in a pick up with a stiff suspension....

Just cement a few cones to the road with construction adhesive. Funnier, and less potential damage...
