WRONG. Dixie was written before the civil war by an Ohioan as a lampoon of the south. In true southern fashion they stubbornly defied this intention of the song and wore it as a badge of honor and celebrated it. Then they used it as their anthem when war broke out.
It was also Abraham Lincoln’s favorite song. And played in celebration at the White House when it was formally announced that the south had rejoined the union.
