Damn. Blows my mind that we in 2025 and 50/50 custody isn’t the standard.

That rule hasn’t made sense for 30 years. No longer is mom sitting at home setting aside her career for the sake of the kids. That’s some archaic nonsense.
If a 50/50 dad has to pay for half already, why does he also have to pay for the other half?
The LA rule with shared custody takes into account their respective incomes, just FYI. So if they both work and make similar money, there won't be much, if any, CS.

Arkansas has been like this for a while and divorces seem high.

I mean that's the worry. And victims of DV do things that would appear irrational from the outside, due to the trauma and long-term conditioning involved.
Ever heard of battered wife syndrome?

I'll bet you $10 if you read the article, those questions will be answered.

50/50 shared custody law
They'd make a bigger dent if they reformed child support.

The larger issue is what is considered “proof” of DV here. Judges aren’t consistent from county to county on that.
I know a guy who was convicted for domestic violence against his ex-wife based on nothing more than a Polaroid picture of someone’s back that showed a bruise about the size of a half dollar. She accused him of beating her, so the sheriff dept came and arrested him. They gave him a bench trial. The prosecutor’s only evidence was this Polaroid picture that it turns out she had provided. No way to verify when the picture was taken, who was in the picture, or what caused the bruise on the person’s back. Judge found him guilty anyway. Thankfully it was overturned on appeal.

No fault divorce ruined this country.

I love it when the media uses the term “but critics say” in their story. Who are the “critics” and why should I give a shite what they have to say?
One of the critics (quoted in the article) is Elizabeth Martin. She’s CEO of Center for Women and Families here in Louisville, a shelter that provides beds and access to services (mental health, legal, potential housing) for women and families leaving active DV situations in the area. She works every day with DV situations and is a former social worker herself. I’ve had the opportunity to work with her and she’s a pretty bright, involved person who has a good grasp on the situation with the law.

Article overwhelming points out men beating women but that is nowhere near the case in real life. No sane person would agree to 50/50 with a violent partner. Propaganda.
Let's be honest guys. A man will sacrifice his happiness for his family but most women won't. Good for Kentucky to start holding more women accountable.
"A man will burn himself to keep his village warm, but a woman will burn the village to keep herself warm."

That sounds like a system problem where you live.
Here I just saw a friend’s ex-husband only serve 3 months for sexual abuse of their daughter because there “wasn’t a rape kit” despite photographic evidence and text exchanges discussing it. Because it was a conviction in a smaller county where he knew the Judge.

Good point except the victims don't decide custody. The ownness is on the state. That could be good or bad but they 50/50 law in place. They have to investigate that.

Bingo. I get tired of the "Living the life I am accustomed to" bullshite I keep hearing in these cases.

The State of Louisiana guidelines suck.
You bet they do. I requested 50/50 and couldn’t get it even with a squeaky clean record. If you have the wrong judge, you’re screwed on custody.
