NRG is not in a ghetto Sunnyside is the closest ghetto and that is a few miles away to the SE across the Loop
It’s surrounded to the east, north, and west by old sketchy apartment complexes that experienced an influx of culture after Katrina. There’s a reason why UT Health built its own secure student housing for med students and stopped housing its students in the complexes on Holly Hall.

…and right on cue, carnival closed down by police yesterday for fighting. Several arrests were made.

They closed the carnival at 10 because urban teens prompted a stampede of people thinking they heard gun shots. Supposedly some kind of prank that I must be missing the humor.

They were probably heading to a late night poetry jam or Christian basketball tournament

The HLSR carnival has always been like this.

Why must they appropriate our culture?

Found a video. More gloriously ghetto than I even imagined:
What's at least encouraging is that if you read the comments, a majority of black people are condemning the behavior, calling it trash, etc.

OT still racist
If calling out uncivilized behavior and immoral actions is racist then - yes they are.

This thread isn't calling out immoral actions. Its calling out diversity as in ethnic groups, not diversity in character. Everyone should be criticized for uncivilized behavior.

I am not the only one that has noticed a HUGE amount of black population attending the carnival

It’s been a thing for a few years now post Covid. Lots of problems for random homeowners as their neighbors have Airbnbs rented out to these young scholars. I think lots of HOAs have amended deed restrictions to halt some of this. Imagine coming home from a 9-10 hour day and you have skunk weed floating to your driveway and loud music until 4am.
