Haha you didn’t have a distal biceps. You had a proximal biceps. Tenotomies are common with RCR repairs.

Just realized you were replying to someone else. My bad.

I had that surgery two years ago, I never wore that contraption. I tore the bicep completely off the forearm on a Sunday, had surgery Friday. The worst part was the nerve block in your arm afterwards. Felt like my hand was asleep for two days.
I had surgery at 7am, I was at the mall at 11am.

As far as the rest of the recovery, physical therapy for a few weeks, slowly gained full motion.

I'm sure I know where it ruptured (below the elbow). It had nothing to do with the RCR. It was caused by a reaction to Ciprofloxicin. I developed tendinitis in multiple joints and that one ruptured.

I had the surgery, but did not have to wear that thing.

I didn’t get my right bicep repaired but I did get my left pectoral reattached when I ripped both layers off. The contraption I had too wear was difficult as hell to get comfortable in.

I ruptured my right one last May. Had the surgery, wore the contraption, did my OT, and never had a minute of pain - even when the rupture occurred.

Ruptured my left one Super Bowl Sunday of this year. Much more intensive surgery
Doc had to get a tendon (can't remember of it was cadaver or not). Doc took 2 hours trying to stretch it to re-attach to lower arm bone. OT has been fairly painful. Hurt pretty bad. Contraption didn't bother me.

I had a complete tear and my surgeon had me sleep with a sling for 3 or 4 nights but that was it. No robo arm contraption. 6 weeks of nothing heavier than a coffee cup and then SLOW progress from there. I did my own rehab based on Dr suggestions and I was fine.

Ciprofloxicin

Wife had levoquin induced tendonitis about 10 years ago. Attacked her Achilles and wrist. She had to go through physical therapy for both. She only took 1.5 pills…..

She also had a steroid shot the day before for a sinus infection and I read a study that Levoquin and steroid increases chance of antibiotic induced tendonitis. Some people had complete ruptured associated with it.

Isn’t that what it’s called when someone tears their bicep while doing really heavy deadlifts?

Exactly. In my case, I lifted A freaking watermelon out of a grocery cart to put it in my vehicle. Heard a "pop" (never knew you could hear a tendon tear!)Thought a bone had broke in my upper arm because of the sound and pain. Very bizarre injury to say the least.
