Im not sure how people dont understand freedom of speech doesnt mean you can say whatever you want and your employer cant do anything about it.
Yeah the people saying this is 1st amendment dont make sense.
The only possible issue here is the government getting involved and getting him fired.
If the FCC head truly threatened to reject their $6 billion dollar acquisition if they didnt fire him that is problematic.
quote:
Nexstar wants to buy Tegna for $6.2 billion. Nexstar and Tegna own various news affiliates throughout the country. The FCC has a rule that says no single company can own assets that cover more that 39% of American households. This merger would mean Nexstar would now control affiliates that reach 80% of American households. The rumor is the FCC would only remove that cap if Kimmel's show was removed because the merger was announced after the head of the FCC was voicing his displeasure of Kimmel on some podcast.

He’s rooting for the “rumor” to be true

Previous FCC chairs never behaved like that.
What about in 2010 when they proposed changes specifically targeting fox news?
Y'all are really bad at making up your own facts.

The government official made these statements. It isnt just blind rumors.
quote:
On Wednesday, before ABC yanked Kimmel's show, Carr called Kimmel's comments "truly sick" and said there was a "strong case" for action against ABC and Disney.
"This is a very, very serious issue right now for Disney. We can do this the easy way or the hard way," Carr told right-wing commentator Benny Johnson that day. "These companies can find ways to take action on Kimmel, or there is going to be additional work for the FCC ahead."
"They have a license granted by us at the FCC, and that comes with it an obligation to operate in the public interest," Carr said.

You took the rumor part out.
What we know:
Ratings were declining drastically and late night is pretty much over
Affiliates were pissed
The content of what he said was factually incorrect
The motive behind it was disingenuous- Claiming a side was posturing for political reasons while he was doing the exact same things
Clip baiting with the Trump piece
It gave them the excuse they've been looking for to get rid of him. Its not some crazy government scandal.

Id rather the purchase not be allowed anyway. Our news is already controlled by too few parties.
How so? He did not state that the shooter was maga.
Him describing MAGA behavior is not a lie.

Nexstar doesn't employ Kimmel. I get you're needed to defend your fellow liberals as much as possible.....but you're spouting off wildly incorrect info.

If there isn't a mirror in your trailer....you should really buy one and look into it from time to time.

I thought Sinclair asked the FCC to look into Kimmel
The FCC said they were asked to look into Kimmel
ABC pulled the plug before anything could actually happen because it was gonna cost them money and Late Night shows are dead anyway

Wow dude, you are so intellectually dishonest.
What? Where did Kimmel state that the shooter was MAGA. If you can provide a link to a clip of him doing so then why havent you done so.
Go listen to or read the quote again.
quote:
“The Maga gang [is] desperately trying to characterize this kid who murdered Charlie Kirk as anything other than one of them, and doing everything they can to score political points from it,” he said.
You could even post the opposite and it also be true.

Either way Kimmel isnt stating that the shooter was a leftist or maga. He is simply describing the actions of that group while making no assertions of his own.

You're missing the point. I disagree with many of Corinthians' posts, but he's right on this. Kimmel's quote might have implied that the shooter was part of the "MAGA gang," but it does not come out directly and state it. He simply states that the "MAGA gang" is trying to prove that the shooter was not one of them. That statement can be true regardless of the shooter's political affiliations.
