The hassle becomes when you want/need to make changes.

Right. She handles all that too, up until you arrive at the park.

No, what I meant is making changes when you go through a travel agent or disney specialist can be a pain in the arse sometimes.

Some of the specialists are the ones who HAVE to make the changes...so, if you're at home and you've been waiting on an ADR for Le Cellier for lunch for three weeks and you see one open at 11 pm....you can't do anything about it.

Same thing with FP+ changes. The guest may have a MDX account, but now know how to use it. So, a new ride comes along and opens up after their agent put in their FP+ requests and they don't have that option.

Take Memorial Day for an example. The new Frozen ride in Norway is supposed to open on June 1. BUT, sometimes they will open it (unannounced) early and just throw an option out on a limited basis on My Disney Experience. if your agent has to be the one to make the change, you likely could miss out.

Not so sure if that is accurate. I believe you can as an individual make changes, and she goes back and rebooks it under her agent account. I will check with her and post the answer.

It all depends on how they are set up in my disney experience and the guests knowledge of using the system. Different agents map operate differently but it depends on the agent you use.

The point is that simply handing everything off to an agent puts you at a disadvantage when things come up (because you may not be aware). If you are aware and are staying on top of it most people are better served booking themselves.

The idea of just shooting info over to an agent and showing up with your magic bands on the day you arrive isn't very good advice. For the best results the guest should be involved with the planning and if you're involved with the planning just book it yourself. Agents want people to think it's overly complicated (so they can profit), but it really isn't hard to figure out. There are TONS of resources out there.
