I have been shopping for dining room tables the last week and can't seem to find anything I really like. Plus, they're really expensive. Any of you O-T baws make your own? If so, please share plans and pictures of completed work.

Thank you in advance

Check out the "neatest thing you've built" thread on the OB. Lots of great stuff in there.

Tables hold no value. Go on Facebook to a Buy, Trade, Sell site and get a cheap one that meets your needs. Unless you are truly dining and holding nice dinner parties, this should not be an expensive piece. Tables can be bought used in great shape for 10-20% of their original price.

What style table you looking for? there are several diy sites with free plans. I've gotten into making furniture as a hobby and therapy.. Dinner table is what I've been wanting to really do.

Thinking i may do this one for my patio.

ETA: that's only about 100 bucks worth of lumber and a weekend if you have the tools of course. with stain screws and everything you could do something like that under 200 total.

Now, you can certainly do something nicer. There's an online company that sells turned table legs in a variety of different species and go from there. Just goes back to what you're really looking for.

This. My ex wife bought a $5500 table. When we divorced she got $3300 for it. Such a waste of money.

same here... Not sure how you're planning on attaching your base to your top, but from what Ive learned most of those sites like that instruct the wrong way of doing things... I believe you'll eventually have some cracking, cupping if you dont allow the wood to "move". Same thing with screwing a breadboard end together

This dude has some how-to videos... makes some dynamite stuff LINK

Built this and its on my patio currently. Haven't had any warping or movement, but it is a small piece. I did however coat the shite out of it with polyurethane.
I attached legs by wood gluing legs pieces then a couple screws.

Geez man just get one of those giant cable spools and tip it on its side. Instant table.

I did that one for our house. A few tips to make it easier on you...

Use 4x4's for the center vertical posts on the legs and also for the horozontal posts on the legs as well. Cuts out a step or two with the 2x4's...Here's what I did with the plan:

Was selling my in-laws set a few months back and couldn't give it away. Most younger families don't have dining rooms. I'm surprised you're having trouble.

Did you use treated 4x4 posts? b/c finding them untreated is a pain in the arse around here apparently.

I just did a twin bed for my 4yr old and ended up just laminating 2 2x4's to make a post. After gluing them up(Titebond wood glue is serious) and running it thru the table saw I got a decent looking post out of it.

That table looks great though.

Yeah, I used treated posts and let them dry out for a few days in the sun. I also wasn't worried about it since I wasn't using a wood-colored stain on the bottom. But yes, finding them untreated is a PITA in BR area. There's apparently a place in Gonzales that has them, and possibly the HD in Kenner.

I build tables and other things. Whatever you do despite how easy it looks, don't use a Kreg jig and pocket screws to attach your table top for a nice indoor table. They don't allow the wood to expand and contract like other fasteners do.

.. Yeah I called a lumber yard that's over by Cortana and they have a really nice selection of stuff, but the guy told me yeah its near impossible to find. Believe he told me it has to do with the mills they order from just don't do them.

titebond is the shite, last glue up when i was shaving off the side of those 2x's left maybe a 1/16in 4ft long shaving a the wood snapped before the glue. So yeah you'd tear the wood apart before the glue.

gotcha.. A coffee table I did I used 4x4 post and did the same. It was paints white so it didn't really matter that much.

think if i do another coffee table I'm going to order the legs from Osborne wood.. pretty legit products there.
