Not to them, but they did make us say it to other adults.

No, they weren't egotistical pricks. However, I was expected to say it to other adults outside of the family.

Nah my dad didn't. He got really pissed when I called him by his first name though. Like backhand slap me pissed.

He did expect me to say it to other adults though.

We always used it with all adults and I still do with elders. My kids are the same and do it without fail.
