This was discussed verbatim last week. The conclusion was that fallguy_1978 and his army of heathens are the cause for the lightning bug extinction.

I call them lightning bugs, that’s all I’ve ever heard them called so I guess my mom did too weirdo

Lightening bugs here too. From what I have heard, mosquito sprays have reduced their numbers significantly.

Lightning bugs. Have hundreds up at the camp in northern Arkansas. Zero in Prairieville.

since I didn't officially weigh in earlier, I personally use fireflies. I was introduced to them up north originally, while on vacation. Was young, like 6 or 7. Being a Floridian, dad wasn't into summer camping... so I had never seen them down here to learn the local lightning bug name.
