Yes.

And typing class was the class I was in the day that a young man shot another man in my high school.

I was stuck in typing class for two hours.

FYI. The young man that was shot made it. The bullet lodged in his occipital lobe and never entered his brain.

Its funny you brought typing class up.
I was talking about this with another friend that was in that class with me that day. He brought this up today while we were on the boat

We both had to pee really bad and the teacher let us pee out the window.

I took a semester of typing in a classroom next to a printing machine that was used to print newspapers and the school annual. It was fairly high tech and quality at the time. Pretty sure it was freshman year of high school.

I was always high as a kite but was up to about 37wpm with no mistakes. I remember the teacher had made cardboard keyboard covers that the printing class had then laminated. Our hands were under the covers so we could not see the keys.

I still look at my pc keyboard.

Part of my preclinicals for my 2nd degree required a handful of MS Certifications (6-8). And I spent about a year in the early internet age writing simple website code by hand as a hobby. (Talking back before yahoo coined the name geocities for their public websites domain)

I’ve read some articles that said people under a certain age basically have no computer skills because they grew up with smart phones. Can’t type quickly, save and organize files, use outlook, etc.

Sort of. I signed up for it my junior year, it was the last class before lunch.

On day one the teacher said it was a class for seniors so I just skipped everyday after that. Never got caught and had a nice, long lunch all semester.

Graduated high school in 2002. Took typing junior year in 2001. Probably the best class I took in high school in terms of a skill that I actually still use. Back then I could easily type over 100 words per minute. With age I'm probably down to around 75 words per minute now with few or no errors. I can probably get that up to 80 words per minute but there would be additional errors.

I think a high school typing class should be something everyone takes. Not everything is on smart phones and in the work world you are still going to be using a laptop or in the very least a tablet. It's also nice as I do not even have to look down at the keyboard.

Even on a message board like this. Sure I can use my iPhone, but it's just a better format on my laptop and I can type responses a lot quicker than doing hunt and peck on an iPhone.

Yes, in middle school.

Old school type writers. At the time I didn't think anything about it, but now know just how valuable it was to me.

I can't believe it's at 2.5% now. That's sad.

It was a very useful class. I took it in 9th grade I think, around 1984.

Took typing my 1st semester my freshman year. Was probably the most useful class I ever took, high school and college combined. Ridiculous that everybody doesn’t have to take it in every high school in America.

Took it in high school. I think I was the only boy in class. Turned out to be super valuable as world embraced computers. I’m fast.
