Did you sign up for the draft when you turned 18?

Or are you a draft dodger?

I did. I’m too old to be needed anymore though. I thought I read somewhere that, if desperately needed, the cut off age is 45. So I may not be out of the woods yet.

quote:

The Selective Service System is an independent agency of the United States government that maintains information on those potentially subject to military conscription. Virtually all male U.S. citizens and male immigrant non-citizens between the ages of 18 and 25 are required by law to have registered within 30 days of their 18th birthdays and must notify Selective Service within ten days of any changes to any of the information they provided on their registration cards, like a change of address.

If we ever get to the point where we’re drafting 45 year olds, the world wouldn’t be worth living in.

Yes in '88.

Hit the books hard when the Gulf War broke out.

I know you aren’t eligible for student loans without signing up.

Didn’t think I really had a choice. I did it when I registered to vote.

Because that would help your odds with a draft that doesn't exist and if it did would be based upon a lottery?

Yes. A requirement for loans and some scholarships.

I thought it was just law for every male to sign up. I know that if you don't sign up, you have restrictions placed on you in terms of certain employment.

Yep. Most, if not all, of the jobs I've applied for in the last decade have asked for my Selective Service number. Had to have it for government security clearances.

I did but I’m the only child so I’d be one of the last to be drafted if it was ever reinstated but I’m to old and broke down now. I’d probably die after 1/2 a mile march lol
