I went to Atlanta because I had a job lined up. It was a nice place, but we came back to home to raise the kids near family. Even though it's got some problems, I'll probably die here.....hell, I drive through The East every day.

Yes, but I've been back for a while. Now I absolutely am ready to leave again for good. Too many better places to raise the kids, just have to get the wife on board.

I guess you've never lived in a town where everyone knows your name and you know theirs. Where everyone knows and cares about everyone. Where you can walk out your front door and walk to your aunts and uncles houses all on the same block. Where everyone looks after one another in a time of need. Where you grow up knowing your cousins and seeing them every day. It's not just parades, go-cups, drive-through daiquiris, fried seafood on french bread, mosquitos, humidity, brown water, and a murder rate that would shame Kabul, Afghanistan. South Louisiana is the biggest small town on planet earth. The sheer volume of connection is like 7 Degrees from Kevin Bacon on steroids. It's a certain permanence and sense of belonging I have felt nowhere else.
No I haven't, and it sounds fricking awful...

This isn't necessarily a positive thing for everyone. I can see why someone would like that, but I would HATE living somewhere where the entire town knows each other and are in each others' business all the time.
Again, I don't fault people for liking that kind of environment, but it's just not for me.

Yes. Better job opportunity and I didn't want to raise a young family in uptown NOLA. Best decision I ever made. I love Louisiana though

I feel for the people that grow up in Louisiana and never leave.
I've never had anyone tell me they regretted leaving LA, but sometimes they'll follow that up with something subjective like "but there's no place like home"

That's true to a certain degree. There are certain things that LA offers that nowhere else in the world can, but at a certain point those quirky idiosyncrasies just aren't worth the negatives that come with the state.

I have and it's definitely a love/hate relationship

If I lived closer to my family, I might have to slit my wrists

I made new friends when I lived out of state but it wasn't the same as my true friends I've had all my life. Also my new friends were all people that were originally from Louisiana

I'm flying out from Boston to L.A. in a couple months for a friend's bachelor party. Looking forward to catching some standup and improv at UCB. Need to start researching restaurants soon as well. Any suggestions?

Yep
Moved to Houston for oil field trash work
Love the job, do miss LA
I'm only a 4 hour drive from home, not a big deal to visit when I need to

It has its moments, but for the most part it is kind of a nuisance
