Did you know that the only flag to fly at the Alamo was the flag of the New Orleans Greys?

An interesting Texas - Louisiana connection. The New Orleans Greys were a volunteer military unit from New Orleans that formed to fight in the Texas War of Independence.

23 of them fought and died at the Battle of the Alamo.

Mexico has the actual captured flag from the Alamo. It’s on display at a museum in Mexico City. The Texas government has fought for years to try to get them to return it, and to this day they have refused.

Yep, the Texas Independence movement was about creating another slave state and supported financially and politically by the southern slave states including Louisiana. The men who came to fight from the south were promised free land in Texas.

You can say this about Louisiana...

In history, we never shied away from a fight.

Win or lose...

Probably wasn’t the only flag seized or flown at the Alamo during the battle. More info on it, it was a gift to them from Texans.

Another story about something from Nola being stolen. Cool.

For real, that's pretty cool.

I imagine they flew the Texas flag at the Alamo, but the only unit flag that was captured and kept as a trophy was that one.

It's a legit war trophy, except they lost the damn war. One might think they'd not want a reminder.

Movies and books usually show the "Alamo Flag". Was this not flown?

Yes, it’s showcased in the basement of the Alamo.

Not surprising, Louisiana and Texas historically are very close, literally and figuratively. One might say Sister States. Then again Texas is like 4 different states in and of itself.
