4-H Camp at Grant Walker was our summer highlight. Then we got old enough to go to Junior Leaders and Short Course at LSU, great memories of being on campus. We had other fun trips with 4-H, going to the national meeting in DC is still as fresh in my mind as it was in 1983. Almost all my firsts with girls happened on a 4-H trip. I had friends all over the state back then, really a great experience.

Nope...had some summer gig since I was 10.

Folks were blue collar - their idea of a vacation was camping at the lake for two weeks (don't get me wrong, it was fun).

Nope.
My mom found the cheapest female baby sitters on the street every summer.
My friends and I did whatever the hell we wanted all day while the teenage girls in charge of us watched MTV and talked in the phone.

My mom came home one day and couldn’t find us. We were out in the woods on a pond trying to paddle around in ice chest.

My mom had a job where she was on the school schedule. So she was home during the summer and holidays.

She didn't like me to be inside so all the kids would always be between one or two houses with no parents home doing shite we were not supposed to be doing.

There was always a fight about to happen (most of the time it didn't) or one kid would get into it with someone from another neighborhood and for most of the day there would be someone going back and forth telling each side what the other said.. Then it would always evolve into who could beat who in basketball or football so I guess at least once a week there would be a game between kids from two different neighborhoods.

There was a wooded area where the collection of playboy, hustler, penthouse were kept. It was under a peace of old plywood, covered with leaves in a plastic bag. Every once in awhile someone would steal one from their older brother or somewhere else and add to the collection.

When it rained we would call people on three way and not say anything and if they picked up around the same time they would talk and both would be confused because both of their phones would ring (this was before everyone had caller ID).

So going to camp meant you were missing out on what was going on around the neighborhood.

Boy Scout summer and winter campa at Camp Edgewood and Mountain Bayou. Those were fun times.

Christian camp at Brookhill in Arkansas a few times. The last time, I came very close to beating another kid up.
