This is ridiculous that the schools and workers have to do this. What do these imaginary children that can't eat at home do on the weekends? Summer? School Holidays?

In most areas kids under 18 can get a free meal anytime of year.

Wrong. It’s 18 and under, and all you need us ID (so they say). They’re not even verifying if you’re a student or not. They’re just giving away breakfasts and lunches. I’m not even sure if they limit it beyond that.

I saw a woman interviewed on tv about the free meal program.
She said "yeah that way I don't have to cook two meals so I figured I'd take advantage of it".
Maybe she needs them but you don't say what she said.

I really don’t think it’s worth getting in a twist about if a few kids are getting a $1.15 meal that they don’t “need”.

Don’t need any kind of kid’s ID in my district. Kids don’t have to be present. One adult can show up, fill out a form where you list the kids’ names, and pick up enough meals for the whole neighborhood.

That way the baby mommas dont have to get up early to go get breakfast.
Today they had a hamburger, chips and an orange with white or chocolate milk for lunch.
For breakfast, they got a bag of cereal, milk, apple sauce and Graham crackers.
No id or forms. Wife pulled up with car load of kids she is watching and they handed her the bags.
That way the baby mommas dont have to get up early to go get breakfast.

I've tried the last two days to get my kids to let me take them to get a free lunch. Both said it was probably going to be gross and didn't want it.

A food service worker makes roughly $15/hr. That person can probably assemble a meal every minute. So that’s maybe $0.25/meal in labor costs...
Probably similar for the bus driver and the gas. So we’re almost certainly adding less than $1 per meal in labor and transportation. Utilities...I don’t know. I can’t imagine it costs that much to keep the lights on in the cafeteria for a couple hours a day.
Maybe you have more accurate numbers than my super-rough guess-timates, but I’m really not seeing where this would cost an amount of money that anyone should be ticked off about...especially given the fact that it was already in the budget.
