Yes, grew up in Lafayette. Around 2005 to 2007, it was really easy to sneak into bars and a select few didn't check IDs (Bulldog, Keg, and Nitetown). It was also pretty common for parties to be thrown in semi-rural areas.

In all my years of buying shitty vodka at the store down highland road toward downtown from campus,I never knew there was an up-market taaka label.

I meant if the high school administration caught wind of students drinking. But congrats on having a cool mom. I bet a bunch of your friends fricked her.

My mom wasn’t the Cool Mom. She was ahead of most the pack, but she wouldn’t have ragers with like 30 teenagers. If you don’t know what the Cool Mom means, you weren’t invited to the parties. Honestly I hung out with the parents while getting drunk since that was interesting and it built up trust with me when it came to their kids. It was fun.

I’m sorry, but every grade needed the Cool Mom. I was socially competent, and sorry you weren’t invited to the parties where the parents bought all the booze for you. You just weren’t that cool.

Like IN high school? Only my junior and senior years. I had a pretty good system for mixing drinks at my locker. Why someone didn't rat me out is beyond me.

Not sure how I survived driving over the Huey P back to the Bestbank after a night of hitting the uptown spots. That was really dumb in retrospect.

The point is the parents hosted the party and you got the best of both worlds. You gain the parents’ trust and rage with your friends. It’s a balancing act that their parents appreciate that you’re looking after their kid and you’re actually smart. Trust me, winning strategy and I still have my friends’ parents asking about me. One of them got me my current job, so if you’re in high school or college, party with the parents and butter them up. Trust me, this is really good advice. Don’t do cocaine or anything like that in front of them, but a little booze, grass, entertaining them, and assuring them you’ll stick up for their kid through thick and thin, I promise it pays off.

was more wild in high school than I was in college. Got it out of my system early.
I was the same. The freedom in high school… camps, bonfires, etc. also the excitement of going to bars and parties in Baton Rouge (Sports, Bogies) a senior in HS sneaking or faking in. When I got to college it felt like the glamour of bar stuff was amateurish/boring and caused me to focus more on school and work.

Generation gap. Although we’re probably not that far apart in age

Because you never tried. I’m sure they were fine with you, but if you hang by the grill while the Dad is fixing burgers and have a personality that entertains him, you’re in like Flynn. Teens and college people, if you have an enduring personality, take advantage of it. It’s done nothing but help me out in my life. It’s a great skill to have.

Hang out with the cool parents at the parties. If the parents are narcs, stay away from them, but if they’re not it could really help you in your future especially if your job is social in nature.
