Both island nations who needed to reach out elsewhere for certain resources. Forced them to develop certain strengths or die.

Yeah I guess its not dependent on population or Indonesia would be much more developed. It must be the mind set

Equatorial populations tend toward more complacency, yes.

Germany had virtually everything they needed to be a powerhouse save for oil, they had some but not much. Plenty of manpower.

kind of i guess. england had limited resources so it understood that it had to develop a colony to maintain a constant flow of goods. it also understood that its a) on an island and b) it needed to protect its trade routes so naturally it had to develop a dominant navy
japan was basically the same. but they just figured it out too late. if they decided to like, invade china and indonesia and the like in the 1600s they probably succeed as well

Germany couldnt feed itself. They nearly starved due to the British blockade during WWI. It was the impetus for Hitler's Lebensraum philosophy.

Japan's Pacific War budget was also 70% to the army and 30% to the Navy.
So really the odd thing about them was they created sophisticated assets for the Navy. Then immediately never got around to proper damage control training.
US Navy crews from the outset had better training on damage control so it allowed us to salvage a lot of ships and situations. Midway being the most famous.
So even though they understood the importance of having a blue water navy for their ambition. Japan never understood maintenance and was content to rest on laurels won against Anglo and American ships. Damage and even losses of which would be made good while they lost technological ground at a rapid pace.

Aye, agricultural revolution was after the the war. Germany not converting Ukraine to their side, even temporarily, was because they wanted the grain for its population which meant taking it from Ukraine's.

Definitely not.
When you look at the British in India under Wellesley for example. They would be outnumbered and facing armies of like 50,000 but the Indians were largely untrained whereas the British knew what they were doing.

Fires on their hangar decks did in each of their 4 Aircraft Carriers during Midway if I recall correctly since they didn't properly clean up flammable materials or purge their fuel lines with carbon dioxide if they were in harm's way.
