The bridge that became the staple of New Orleans’ skyline, the Crescent City Connection, could soon be illuminated in color much like the Caesars Superdome.
The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development announced Monday that they are tasking Pennsylvania-based firm Modjeski and Masters Inc. to design a new decorative lighting system for the iconic bridge.
DOTD estimates the construction phase to cost $16.5 million and final completion is projected to be done in 2024.
The design is for controllable and programmable LED lights on the trusses of the bridges, along with lights illuminating the piers.

Gonna have to create a committee to oversee and approve designs. I think 12-15 "friends" should be good.

Well I’m glad everything else in the state is functioning so well we get to spend money for this.

Great move in a place unable to repair streetlights.

"This is a judicious use of money given all of New Orleans' various problems", said no one.

I would be all for a project like this if there weren't so many other critical issues in need of funding. We have roads falling apart yet they can spend $16+ milling on a decorative lighting system

And Shawn Wilson, former DOTD head whose running for Governor should have to answer for how this got started during the debates

Didn't they shut the lights off for like a week a while back because they were arguing over who was going to pay the energy bill??
But we have money for this?

This is a safety measure so those drunk riverboat pilots don't ram the bridges.

I'm fine with. At least it would be something kind of cool with the money instead of it going into some shithead's pocket. The CCC is something that is shown during every Saints & Pelicans home game, the Zurich, Mardi Gras, etc. Right now it's a pitch black bridge.
The WWII Museum looks really cool when you're driving by at night with the Canopy of Peace they built a few years ago. We can at least look cool while all the murdering is going on in the streets.

Probably will look cool. There are plenty things to focus on other than lights, but it doesn’t matter how much we complain, that’ll never change, so bring on the lights.

This would be cooler if they fixed my fricking street first.

People blame it on poor lighting but I can promise it isn't poor lighting

$15 Mil is going in someones pocket. They can't convince me that it costs that much to put color changing LEDs on a bridge when they are cheap AF at Home Depot and you can change color from an app on your phone.

Maybe you should put in a bit for the contract.

I'm sure they're going to line the thing with pallets full of Home Depot lights.

Yeah, my first thought was when they shut off the CCC lights in a fit of petulance because the tolls were taken away.

I imagine labor costs is pretty high. I doubt there’s many people jumping at the opportunity to hang lights on a bridge over the Miss River
