Have had my own company for over 30 years. Raised a family of four and have made a damn good living. Hard and hot? Sure. But I still enjoy the grind for a few dollars.

I have done several roofs, besides the obvious part of it being hot and terrible it's really not anything incredibly hard. If you are doing a whole roof by yourself with limited tools it will take a while though. Wear long pants and knee pads. If you are asking this because you took a job roofing then prepare to not speak to anyone unless you speak Spanish. They will be making fun of you all day while smiling and you won't even know it.

Op if you are in the BR area you can get much much easier general labor jobs that pay well.
A cadillac job for sure is steel framing. It's so easy.
You put up steel 2x4s and drop ceilings, usually in A/C. Great construction job, almost all commercial.
Flooring work is easier that roof work and is in high demand with all the flooding.
Do you have any skills? At least you are starting roofing going into the best season for it.

It's tough work. I don't know how those guys go up a ladder with 2 bundle of shingles, I could barely do one. I did the roof on my shed and it wasn't bad. However I took my time.
Get some heavy duty Vans or other time of heavy canvas skateboard type shoes, those are the easiest to walk a roof with. I tore up a pare of Adidas putting my shingles on.

With all the other work that is needed in the area, pick almost anything besides roofing. There are many jobs that are much safer and much less hot. After 6 houses, I will never roof another. I will hire that crap out from now till I'm worm food. It's hot, dangerous, and you will be the only one speaking English.

Unless you plan to learn the business to perhaps go into the industry one day, there are plenty of good indoor construction jobs. It has been very good to me, but it's not an industry that I never would have dreamed getting involved with.
