I saw tornadoes spawn in Gustav that wrecked shite in my neighborhood. I figured I was fine in Katrina I could do fine in Gustav. Nope not again. Gustav was much worse than Katrina after seeing those things spin up and run a nuclear bomb path through the houses in my neighborhood.

I have a suspicion the airport north of Baton Rouge experienced weaker winds than people in south Baton Rouge, Ascension, and Iberville Parish. The wind gusted to 91 at the airport. It’s almost a certainty it was 100+ south of there. Gustav is arguably the hardest a hurricane has ever hit Baton Rouge. Baton Rouge is pretty far inland. It’s not like BR has been smacked by many hurricanes in its history.

Pull up the Google photos of Betsy hitting Baton Rouge in the 60’s. That’s the gold standard of damage to Baton Rouge.

Recon pass seems to be finding Delta increasing in pressure again. News for the Yucatan continues to be promising.

was living off of Highland Rd at the time and you there was an Oak on a power line every 50yds from campus to I-10.

My buddy lived at what is now “the hub”. Pretty sure I recall the roofs on the buildings facing highland were fricked up.

We slept on the floor at our friends’ spot at ECA on campus. Thought my meal plan at the five dining haul would be my security net... that turned into a fema soup kitchen... we were given a card that got you 3 meals a day.

You can about imagine how different things were compared to normal business hours at the dining hauls. Lines out the front door just to get in.

I thought it was amazing how quick it was people were able to hear about a free meal and come in flocks... loved how my $2500 unlimited dining haul pass was switched with a fema card and the food quality dropped to dog food standards.

We have a pretty solid, all brick house. I'm not worried about my structure. My roof can be replaced too.

It's the house hitter oak tree that bothers me. It's a 45 year old live oak so it would take a lot, but I'd probably not let my kid sleep in her room that night.

Eyewall Replacement Cycle I'm assuming?
Am I the first poster to use that phrase?

did this thing somehow plummet from a cat 4 to a cat 2 in no time flat?

Hurricane Hunters still haven't found any winds above 95 kts

I know small storms are the most susceptible to wild swings in intensity... but this seems extreme
