None of us were super slutty actually.

Now there was another nurse I used to work with. We worked at a teaching hospital together and man...did she reallllllly love all the interns that rotated through peds

I had no idea about it till after she left. She had quite an impressive roster I must say though. I can remember discussing past hot interns with coworkers and them saying "yep she slept with him also."

I was under the impression that you had to have experience (at least 2 years post BSN experience) before you could even be accepted into a NP program.

Maybe at some programs but not everywhere. I personally know several NPs that did an accelerated (abbreviated) RN program and then went directly into NP school. No work experience in between.

quote:

The 2 years of experience and clinicals during the NP program would serve as this.

In many NP programs, the students are required to find their own preceptors for their clinical rotations. The school does not provide preceptors for the students' clinical rotations. So there is variability in the quality of clinical training among students depending on who the students found that was willing to take them in and precept them. And at least in the programs my acquaintances attended, there was no vetting process for these preceptors whatsoever. Also, the number of clinical hours required per "rotation" in these programs is miniscule compared to medical school. These NP programs crank out hundreds of NPs per year, btw.

If you want to tell me that these graduates' education and clinical training is comparable to that of a medical school graduate, go ahead. But that would be delusional. Try and compare these NPs to someone that went through medical school AND a residency? Then you're just trolling.

I agree there is a void in healthcare delivery that needs to be filled, and I dont have the answers for our healthcare problems in this country. But if NPs want to step up and practice on their own, they need to lift their education and training standards. The NPs that i know personally who i was referring to above know this and have told me over and over again that they are not adequately prepared to practice on their own.

Because the bill which we are talking about specifically states that they will be practicing under a nursing license and exempt from oversight by the LSBME.

This.

You don't know many smart people.

BTW, before you jump to conclusions, not one of the smartest people I know is involved in health care.

I'm sure your lobbyists will grease enough legislators to prevent this.

... add the phrase "physicians assistants shall have the same scope of practice as nurse practitioners" to the bill and watch the fun.

Worked for me here in Arkansas. Doesn't hurt that one of the young up and comers in the state GOP spent a summer shadowing me and saw first hand how shite works. He thought about going to med school before he saw everything up close and personal. I think he would've been a good one.

Sounds painful. Not nearly as delicious as the hepatopancreas that I suck out of crawfish heads.

It only takes one or two good lobbyists to get what you want. You just have to find the right ones...and spread the cash around, of course.

There is no such thing as polymyositis rheumatica.

There is polymyositis and there is polymyalgia rheumatica.

Nurses learn a lot over a short period of time. Doctors get basically 3x the time to learn how to analyze problems.

Also, nurses get blamed for pretty much all of the doctors mistakes. And it's been my experience in dealing with doctors for several years they are woefully ignorant of pretty much everything non medical, especially politics. My advice for you doc is to stick to the human body and shut your mouth about politics.

I don't think anyone but a nurse would say this.

Nurses don't make decisions; they execute physician orders. The only time they are blamed is when they don't follow the orders.

First of all, it's either polymyositis or it's polymalgia rheumatica. They are two separate entities. Polymyositis rheumatica is a misnomer and does not exist in the medical literature.

Each requires different treatment and can have serious manifestations such as trouble breathing, blindness, and myocarditis if missed.

Second, this is prime example why you shouldn't go to a dumb dumb NP. They don't know what they don't know. They think they know, but they really don't.

Thirdly, I am an MD. That's why I know the difference between polymyositis and polymyalgia rheumatica. Not some made up entity 'polymyositis rhuematica'.

I've actually seen these patients, treated these patient, seen the complications and treatment failures of these patients, and seen patients on long term treatment. I didn't just read about it on some online textbook and pass that off as actual clinical experience.

And don't insult yourself like that again. You're an embarrassment to the medical community.
