From what I gather, it's because we make money. And also, I must have missed the class in medical school where they taught me to spend 5 minutes with the patient and not listen to a word they say. Did any of the rest of you take that one?
Nope did not take that class.

The bill doesn't force me to see a NP over a MD.
You're right. It protects those who don't know any better.

No, it just fundamentally redesigns primary care and drives medical students away from primary care. It allows people who are not equipped to manage things/diseases they have not studied about to autonomously manage all of human pathology.
Some patients are infants, mentally handicapped, too young to make their own decisions, too old to make their own decisions, cognitively altered and unable to choose a provider due to altered mental status, or have dementia and have no idea what's going on. Being a physician requires advocating for the safety of patients in your state. This bill is just so absolutely wrong. If you want to be a primary Doctor, man up and go to med school

No, it's a bill put forth by physicans to protect their interests.

How scary is it if you go to your DNP with some rare disease they literally never heard of, never took a class about, never read about in a book, literally don't even know the disease exists, yet they are standing there in a long white coat, you call them your doctor/provider and they never studied the disease you have!

No the physicians oppose the bill buddy! Read the dang thread
Posted on 5/11/16 at 10:03 pm to MrSpock
That is so deceptive. That is worse than cheating on all your medical school tests

Who's to say the GP has/knows?
Hate to tell you, but they are not all knowing as well.

You are acting like that never happens with a MD

But they know more and that's the whole point.

I went to med school and sat through the classes buddy

Exactly. They don't want competition and need the state to protect their profits
Posted on 5/11/16 at 10:11 pm to LATigerdoc
There's a difference between not being sure what u got and not having a clue a disease exists. Proving absolute certainty in science is not easy no matter the field of science. Ever heard of sensitivity and specificity? I'm talking about literally not knowing that stuff exists, never having had a class over it, never having heard of the disease, never having had a lecture over it ever

We don't even have GPs really anymore. That's somebody who just did med school and internship
Posted on 5/11/16 at 10:13 pm to TJGator1215
I'm not in primary care!

Why are doctors so against freedom and free markets?
Healthcare costs would be drastically cheaper and access would be wider if people had the option to use lesser accredited service providers if they wanted to.

We are fighting this bill because we are worried about patients' lives

Why don't elementary teachers just have free market no rules all day recess and let the kids learn their own education on the playground. Sometimes there's order and rules for a purpose
