Wow, we completely agree, they can not and do not want to make medical diagnosis, but if a patient has an issue that is within the scope of practice of a PT, that patient should and now can go straight to the PT and the PT can treat suchl

Interesting how you're trying to separate pt diagnosis from medical diagnosis and have someone who wasn't trained in medical diagnosis make the diagnosis

Unsupervised ''scopes of practice'' are equivalent to practicing medicine whether or not you or the provider understands that

scope of practice of a PT
Again what does that even mean?
Even something with relatively low morbidity such as a sprained ankle is a medical diagnosis.

PT was very recently a masters and they do not have the ability to fully diagnose disease.
PT's complete a doctoral-level curriculum now. DPT is required to sit for the board exam. And they have the ability to evaluate and diagnose within their scope of practice.

What is your opinion of audiologists, and specifically their ability to have direct access?

You're right. My wife doesn't refer back to neurologists on a nearly weekly basis because what is wrong with the pt is outside of her scope of practice.

should PTs tell the patient they're a board certified practicing doctor?
Posted on 6/9/16 at 7:35 pm to LATigerdoc
Do you see how this is confusing to a patient
Posted on 6/9/16 at 7:35 pm to LATigerdoc
It seems to be linguistic camouflage

Where's the cost savings in that?

You stole our noun
You stole our verb
You stole our adjectives
You stole our verb
You stole our adjectives

What are you even talking about?
They can certainly say they have a Doctorate in Physical Therapy. But you honestly think the PT profession is going to try and couch themselves as MDs?
Have you ever been into an outpatient PT clinic?

If you don't want patients to get confused, then maybe you should refer to yourself as a physician, rather than a doctor. The term doctor was around before you douchebag MDs.
