Do weather stations and news outlets pay people for the right to use their tornado videos?

That bowing segment crossing the state line out of Beaumont is nasty and may try to develop a tornado on the backside of the Northern part of the bow. It has that look about it with developing inflow jet.

Zachary schools are dismissing early due to this weather later

Ask Twitter.
No. Don't do that. Sometimes they offer to pay. Most of the time they don't. Other times they just steal it.
It is a touchy subject.

I had a water spout video that I shot a few years ago go a bit viral on weather twitter for a couple of days. Several news stations, Weather Nation, and The Weather Channel all requested permission to use it on air and on their social media platforms. There were no offers to pay or anything like that. I gave them permission, I just requested credit. I didn't want to be paid for it.
Many storm chasers (the actual pro ones, anyway), copyright their videos and provide info for media outlets to get license to use the video. In those situations, they probably have to pay.

Thanks lawyers. They’d be home safe by the normal time before the line gets to BR.

They dropped the tornado warning on that cell even though it looks better than it has in the last 45 minutes now.

Every single chaser should do that or say no.
When they lay the guilt trip on them, they should allow them to use a still frame pic for the duration of their coverage.
People have started getting wise to the licensing agreements they are forced to sign. They include perpetuity clauses, rights for the channel/network to sell or give away the video to other outlets for any reason they want, and other bullshite.

Lots of bad looking spots with this line crossing the state line. Just nasty.

Very, very close to my location. This is not what I would consider a good time.

They literally reserve the right to sell your video for profit to anyone they choose for any reason.
There have been chasers/photographers who have had their videos show up on those weather compilation shows you see occasionally even though they didn't give permission. Everyone but the chaser seems to profit off their work. Think about the library of videos and images these channels and their parent companies have.

BR schools close early for anything now

99% of the time when some baw posts an awesome tornado or weather video online, the media vultures come out in droves asking to use the video on their station or site “with full credit” to the person who posted. As in…in exchange for your content we will pay you in recognition
A lot of users on Twitter will comment telling the original poster not to accept it unless they get paid.
