On Dec. 28, the women got a call from Louisiana's DCFS, saying that Leo had been airlifted from his home to a hospital in New Orleans. They said he was on a ventilator and may not be alive by the time they got to Louisiana. He died three days later.

Held told WFIE that doctors said Leo sustained three brain bleeds, a puncture wound, widespread bruising, and over 50 loop marks, which are made when someone is beaten with a doubled-over cord.

Both Joseph Eslinger and Diana Lopez were arrested and booked in the Livingston Parish jail for cruelty to juveniles with major injury. They are both being held without bond.

That's it?!?!? When the kid dies, shouldn't this automatically become a manslaughter or murder charge??

Hopefully not right away. He needs to withstand a few brutal beatings like his kid did before one final unimaginably painful skulldragging that lasts for hours.

This breaks my heart truly. Kid never had a chance with trash parents.

When my son was born several months ago, I thought about the different sets of cards each of those babies being born there would get handed in life, which is beyond their control. No doubt, many of them had a good, if not great draw, but it was sad to think for some of them, not so much.

Why? I think the idea that criminals have some kind of code and kill child molesters and killers is false.

They don't give a shite. Now, he might get killed because he's weak.

I do not want those two in prison. They need to be scared to live and shite their pants every minute awake, as Karma will come. A dull spoon and worn saw blade… frick them and all who turned a blind eye

I wonder who she reported it to. LPSO is the worst at investigating crimes involving children, so it wouldn't surprise me if it was reported to them.

Pretty common to arrest/charge with the obvious gimme to get them in custody while the actual, more serious case is being prepped. The charges will be upgraded for sure.

This is according to the grandmother:

quote:

Here’s how it started: In May 2023, concerned for the safety and well-being of Leo and his two younger siblings, Leo’s grandmother Sherri and aunt Kristi petitioned for emergency guardianship of the children. Family members had made numerous reports to the Department of Children and Family Services, including a substantiated sexual abuse claim against Leo’s father Joseph, filed with Indiana State Police and referred to prosecution. Ultimately, this sexual abuse claim landed in juvenile court even though Joseph was an adult when the alleged abuse took place, according to the report.

Despite these serious concerns, Leo and his siblings were left in the custody of their father and his girlfriend, with little oversight. On Aug. 2, 2023, a Guardian ad Litem (GAL) was assigned to investigate the abuse allegations and the children's safety. Our understanding is, after conducting interviews via pre-arranged video call, and without any in-person visit or home inspection, the GAL ultimately reported to the courts on Oct. 3, 2023, that they didn't find any reason to remove the children from their father's custody. Our family found the GAL’s findings inaccurate and problematic, but we hit a roadblock when it came to cross-examination—the GAL accepted an appointment as a judge, and the only recourse we had was to request another GAL and a second investigation, at our own expense of $250 an hour. Attorneys told us there wasn’t much hope of winning custody without a strong GAL report; with mounting legal fees and feeling discouraged, Sherri and Kristi said they would be willing to dismiss if they would consider grandparent visits.

Nearly three months later, Leo is dead after unspeakable abuse.

The fact that this boy has two younger siblings is even more horrifying. I cannot imagine what those babies have been through.
