Well this is false. The tax is already paid.

I’m no expert, and have no dog in the fight. But this:

quote:

to replace the 2% sales and use tax previously levied by the Consolidated Government for the City of Baton Rouge and Parish of East Baton Rouge

Sure sounds like a 2% reduction in sales tax is coming, and this vote will create a new 2% tax in its place.

If true, then it absolutely is a new tax.

Never vote for a new tax. Make them crooks use the money they have better. Demand reallocation of funds.

It's a brand new city. It doesn't have any money yet.

That’s what this is. It’s functionally a reallocation of existing tax revenues to StG.

I sure as hell won't be shopping in St. George. Between state and local sales tax that are going up anyway, that bees about 10.4% on damn near everything

Not really. If the measure is voted down, there will be no reduction.

Nope. The vote is only for who gets to control the tax money. There is no reduction at all, and a reduction is not on the table.

The vote is simply to determine if St George can control their own tax money or if St. George has to beg EBR to let them use the St George tax money.

Yay a new tax. That gives them twice the chance to raise one of them every election cycle! No way this ever becomes more than 6%!

We're currently paying this tax. This vote transfers the tax from Baton Rouge to St. George. Stop being obtuse. IOW, stop being stupid.

Tell Little Village on Airline Hwy. They just charged me tonite.

The thing is Broome gets those dollars and I won’t get any benefits. If I send it to SG I will.

None of that refutes that this tax is not new. You are correct that the total local tax will remain at 6%, therefore it’s not a tax INCREASE. It is new since the 2% tax going to St. George doesn’t exist currently. 2% is going away and being replaced by another 2%. It’s not that hard to understand.

Wrong the tax exists and remain if it’s vote down or voted up. The difference is that Broome will get it if you vote no and SG will get it if we vote yes.

it’s been stated already, but I want to second my brothers in Christs’ motion proclaiming you an official retard.

at best you’re using semantics to cover for the fact that you jumped in without knowing the basic facts of the topic, at worst your comprehension of math is worse than black kids in baltimore

Exactly. The vote isn’t really about tax rates or percents or how much someone will pay. It’s about who gets to control that tax that is already collected.

A “yes” vote means St George gets to control their own tax money.

A “no” vote means that a completely different city gets to control St .George’s tax money.

you are gonna pay more, you have to build courthouse, pay councilmen and their assistants, secrtrytarys, pay new police dept, of course that means building new police stations, it goes on and on, not even paying the mayor and councilmen
