No, Turkey is a common destination for amurican tourists. You have more chance of meeting a terrorists in London than turkey.

Just sit and celebrate the fact that we all know you traveled to Turkey.

You should be fine. I cabbed, but don't recall a train being an option. Blue mosque, Hagia Sophia, Roman cistern and Topkapi palace are all on top of each other which is ideal for your situation.

I've got a dumb question, but if I know you frickers, someone will answer it with an insult filled with a tiny soupcon of useful information.
Don't you have to have the visa before you travel? I wasn't aware you could just fly to some other country, show up at the door and say "Sure would like to come in" and they hook you up on the spot. I guess it kinda depends on the relations between the country who issues your passport and the country you're trying to get into, too, and what kind of agreements they have for each others' citizens. Also, if you can just get off the plane and get a visa on the spot, I'm assuming if they deny your visa, you just pretend you're Tom Hanks in the airport until you can get a flight somewhere that'll let your grubby arse in?
I have questions. You have answers.

Visa on arrival is available for Americans in MOST countries. Check before you travel LINK

As a US citizen there's only a handful of countries I can think of where you need a visa to go to them. Brazil for example you need to apply for your visa ahead of time. Turkey also requires a visa but you can just pay $20 once you arrive at the airport and they slap a sticker into your passport on the spot and send you on your way.

I guess you weren't worthy. Feel better now?

I dont remember having any issue with turkish customs when I went, but a little different situation. mostly just wanted to say turkey is awesome, enjoy it. just watch the cab drivers... they will definitely try to pull the swap a 50 leera for a 5 on an easy tourist target. basically you will hand him 50 leera and he already has the 5 in his hand. as soon as you hand him the 50 he swaps and says no, 50 leera. the bills look almost exactly the same.

It's a great city and you will want to go back. With 16 hours I would hit up the blue mosque, hagia sofia, and grand bazaar. Otherwise just walk around and enjoy the sights

Also recommend but you might not have enough time

Be prepared to go through about 5 check points at that airport. I would get back two to three hours before your flight. I have never in my life seen as many security checks as I have there

Went through twice and never had a problem.

So I guess I would insult the cab driver if I tried to pay with a credit card. I'm hoping UBER is available there.
