Dealing with a toothache

I have had this scourge for 3 days and can’t get in for a root canal until Monday.
Dentist gave antibiotics and I’ve been pounding Tylenol & Ibuprofen, but nothing has helped so far.
It’s easily the worst prolonged pain I have ever dealt with.
Any advice to help ease the pain and maybe get a decent night’s sleep?

Probably not a great idea with the high doses of Tylenol.

I feel you, bro. Happened to me about 6 weeks ago. Bourbon helped, but mostly I just had to grind my way through it. I had never been so happy to see a drill.
If you have access to Ambien, take one or two.

How long have you been taking the antibiotics? Usually takes a couple of days to knock the infection down.

Had the same problem a few weeks ago. Crushing pain in my left temple. Had to resort to booze for a few days. Endodentist did an amazing job with the root canal. I was literally pain free later that afternoon. Still have another follow up visit then the dentist has to put a crown on.

Sipping ice water may alleviate some, have to take a sip every 2-3 minutes. It equalizes the pressure for a short time.

Try a little clove oil.

To use clove oil for a toothache:
Add 3 to 5 drops of clove oil to 1 teaspoon of an edible neutral carrier oil like olive oil, canola oil, grapeseed oil, or sweet almond oil. Dab a cotton ball into the diluted oil and apply it to the affected gums (not the tooth). Keep the cotton ball in place for several minutes to increase absorption. You should feel a slight warming sensation. There will also be a strong metallic or mineral flavor. Remove, and wait for five or 10 minutes. If you don't feel significant numbing, dab additional oil on the gums.

Ha done that started on a Friday got my dentist to come in on Sunday but I didn't sleep from Friday morning to Monday morning when I was able to get the procedure (they couldn't do it on Sunday because it was more complicated than expected). The pain meds they gave me on Sunday did nothing. I could get relief by holding ice water in my mouth (which seemed odd to me) but it had to be almost constant so there was no sleep to be had. It was the most miserable I have ever been but as soon as I woke up from the procedure I was completely pain-free. Best feeling in the world.

It sucks that waiting three days in the business week for a dental procedure is a reality. I just had a crown put on for the first time and it flared my tmj up. Went to the chiropractor once. Won’t be able to get back for 3 weeks. Eating Advil is an awful feeling

Swish mouthwash on the affected side for about 10 minutes. It can kind of numb the area.
