I'm originally from Maryland and used to live very close to where many of the shootings happened. I have numerous family friends who lived in the same area while it all went down and the stories they told me were just crazy. Such as having to run inside their children's school to pick them up, and running with their heads down in a zig zag pattern back to their car because no one knew where or when the next shooting would happen. The thing about it that hits home the most for me, and that I find to be most disturbing, was that these family friends weren't just your average parents with normal jobs, but they were seasoned, tenured, and fairly high ranking employees of NSA at the time, and they were always on alert and seemed to have no idea about who the shooters were or where the next attacks might occur. I grew up with these people, I even called them my uncles even though they weren't blood related, and these guys were never scared about anything EXCEPT the DC snipers. These guys served in the military through the Cold War and still mentioned they weren't as worried during that period as they were about the snipers. To me, that's some scary shite.

Yea it sucked

We had HS football games cancelled, people sitting in their car pumping gas(like that would make a difference).

It was my senior year in HS.

I had been to the Home Depot the one woman had been shot.

I was in DC on vacation the week they caught them. Stayed in Alexandria Virginia. Dad suggested not going but I think your chances of getting stabbed in random street crime far out weighed getting sniped. Both probably crazy low chance anyway.

Moved away to NC from AAFB in October 2001, me and my sister went to schools in Clinton. That kid from Bowie who got shot in the stomach was able to testify at the trial .

I moved to Arlington in Jan 2002. Lived a few footsteps from Ballston metro and worked in Crystal City. I might have been outside for about 25 seconds/day when the sniper was doing his thing.

The police kept telling everyone BOLO for a white van or white SUV. Once you start paying attention you realize there are a shitton of those vehicles on the streets.

I was on the beltway that morning with my then wife traveling to Baltimore. Couldn't figure out wth was wrong with everybody. Finally heard something on the radio. Turned out we were well removed from where they were. Lucky I guess.

Hell, I remember the sniper down in New Orleans back in the early 1970's that was held up in a hotel. That crazy SOB was going around and lighting fires in different rooms. They had cop snipers shooting a hole in a stairway once they had him trapped. Google Mark Essex.

While I was only 6 at the time, I remember it well because my dad was a cop. I remember watching live news coverage when the guy was holed up at the Howard Johnson.
There's a fishing charter guide down in da Parish who is missing a hand. He goes by the name "Capt. Hook" (and he can tie a mean knot despite the hook/clamp thing that replaced his hand - excellent guide). Someone on our trip asked him about the hand - he lost it during the sniper situation. He was a N.O. fireman on the scene.

shite, the hood is inside it . Last time I went a year or two ago they had torn down my home and put up some of the nicest base housing I've ever seen.

I lived in DC then. They would block the roads after each shooting. I got stuck in it once, not in a road block, just in the gridlock it forced onto the interstate.

Only to find out the cops had them in a roadblock and didn't even ask them to pop their trunk. Just let them go. SMH.

They came through Montgomery,AL and cased out a Liquor Store.Waited til it closed and went up and shot 2 women leaving, killing one I believe.

Liquor Stores make all deposits during the shift and leave the store at closing with no money.

They traced a pistol found on the Snipers to the murder.
