Armed robbery is 10-99 for first offense. Depending on the facts and the Judge/prosecutor. I’ve seen a 55 yr sentence and I’ve seen 10 yr sentences. This guy has a good shot at life with the priors.

He would have been released 6 months later under the old program. It's not like he was serving 12 years before that mass release. Just pointing this out for clarity.

Pretty sure you don't understand what that mass release actually changed. Release for good behavior was lowered to 35% of your sentence. It was 40%. The mass release was due to the retroactive nature of the law - everyone between 35% and 40% got released together.
ETA - It's asinine that burglary and other property crimes are considered "non-violent." That shouldnt be treated the same as a drug or prostitution charge.

Sure. I went to high school with a fella that committed armed robbery at a gas station in mandeville. He’s serving 30 no probation. 1st offense with no priors. He really was a good guy in his younger days. His uncle was a local cop who raised him after his dad died.
This guy is a repeat offender who broke parole and brandished a firearm during a robbery...allegedly. I’d bet he gets life.

In this case he committed the crime in the wrong parish (22nd JDC), they 'hang them high'. Go take a look at most of the criminals in Jeff/NO Parish, you'd getting a little viewing pleasure of your own.

In many cases rapes aren't considered violent crimes either. They are classified separately in some studies as sex crimes. Its all about hand picking your stats to fit what you want
