Extremely upsetting.

Death 2016 claims its first giant of entertainment.

Father Time is an a-hole.

I had no idea he played Tesla in The Prestige movie until this morning. I guess I just never made the connection.

I recently rewatched The Prestige, and didn't realize it was him until the credits rolled. Totally got by me the first time I saw it.

it's silly and shallow to say, "I'm glad I got to see him before he died," but I'm glad I got to see him before he died. It was a beautiful, small outdoor venue and an incredible show.

Camera phones had just started getting big (still flip phones), and security took mine when I snapped a shot. (DB was an astute businessman and protected his IP doggedly.) I tricked the guy into thinking I'd erased it. As with most such stupid pics, I have no idea where it is, but is a good memory nonetheless.

for some reason, these lines were the first to pop in my head:
quote:

I've made some breakfast and coffee
Look out my window and what do I see
A crack in the sky and a hand reaching down to me
All the nightmares came today
And it looks as though they're here to stay

This is Ground Control to Major Tom
You've really made the grade
And the papers want to know whose shirts you wear
Now it's time to leave the capsule if you dare
"This is Major Tom to Ground Control
I'm stepping through the door
And I'm floating in a most peculiar way
And the stars look very different today
For here
Am I sitting in a tin can
Far above the world
Planet Earth is blue
And there's nothing I can do

Nice lyrics. Great lyrics.

Makes me miss the 70's (I was too young to enjoy them anyway 1973), barely remember them, but miss them.

What was Bowies substance of choice? Reason I bring it up is the mind that came up with those lyrics sounds high. Infinitely creative, but high. There's a great clip of him loaded in an interview. Appeared to be cocaine. Nice that he was able to come out the other side. I guess cancer got him, but he got to hang around to near 70.

You don't have to cheapen his creativity by attributing it to drugs.
