It is interesting to see the difference of opinions in this vs the Cuties thread on M/TV. It is almost like situational morality is actually real.

We talking that little cheer cult they have running around Baton Rouge that puts makeup on 7 and 8 year olds?

If so, your wife is right.

I would be more specific but I’m not going to be sued for libel; even if I have enough insurance to cover it.

Parents who are okay with their young daughters being dressed up and “sexualized” - makes me vomit even saying that word in this context- have issues. Majority of the time it’s the mom’s okaying this crap. They are usually taught by a bunch of gay men and former cheerleaders.

So yeah, expose your children to what you choose but that wouldn’t be my choice. If you’re a Christian, even less so.

It’s definitely a money put though man. Between the lessons and fees probably looking at 6k annually if she wants to compete

Mine did gymnastics from 5 through 5th Grade. Then did competitive cheer (and regular cheer) until high school. Has done regular cheer and one season of gymnastics in HS.

Other than the nagging injuries and likely latent spinal issues, it's been great for her. I attribute a lot of her academic success to the discipline she gained through those activities.

I will say cheer parents are much worse than gym parents.

Your wife needs to get the frick over herself.

I have a young daughter and the necessary attire wouldn't crack the top 5+ reasons I don't want her in gymnastics.

Potential recurrent injuries
Body image issues
Potential for abuse/exploitation
Exorbitant cost
Travel
Pay 2 Play
Healthy diet and metabolism
My own person lack of interest

Being totally honest, I didn’t care for my daughter wearing the gym outfits either. You have to find ones that fit correctly.

Also she wears her gym onesie, with shorts similar to these

The reason they wear what they do is not to be sexual.

If you watch the olympics, the stuff they are doing On beam and bars would be effected by material moving against the beam or bar. That’s why they baby powder the things when they do the uneven bars.

I would not (and in fact did not) allow my daughter to participate in gymnastics.

All you have to do is pull up Mckayla Maroney threads on here to fully grasp how sexualized that activity has become.
