A 20-year-old man walking beside railroad tracks near Picayune, Miss., while listening to music with earbuds was struck and killed by an Amtrak passenger train Monday morning (July 30), the Biloxi Sun-Herald reported.

Along can be used as an adverb as well. In this case it was used incorrectly.

if only that train couldnt move around and was forced to follow a clearly marked confined pats less then 6 ft wide 
besides that, a train shakes and vibrates the ground a lot, there is no way not to feel it coming unless you are high as frick. i live 1/4 mile from railroad tracks and can feel my bed shake at night when they pass
