Alabama is an underrated state as far as outdoor activities go. Good hills and some fantastic river/creek floats. Louisiana might have MAYBE 5 good streams to float. It would take years to cover Alabama's rivers.

No sane person who has spent time in both cities could possibly equate New Orleans to Birmingham.
The former is one of the world's great tourist destinations, for considerable reasons, while the latter is an unfortunate bit of blight on the road to Atlanta.
eta: I do agree, though, that for outdoor activities Alabama is far better than Louisiana.

I'm still kicking myself for not pulling the trigger on a double in the Carrollton area two years ago. It was priced at $98/sq ft. Now you can't find a fixer upper for under $300/sq ft in that area.

Corruption, dysfunction, high crime, shitty infastructure are the only thing they have in common. I agree with Rex (can't believe I typed that) about no sane or objective person would compare the 2 cities. The only southern cities that can compare to NOLA are Savannah Ga and Charlestown SC.

Met a couple of older people from Kansas that have retired and moved down here just 10 days ago. There daughter is in med school.
They bought a house in the Bywater for 550,000.00.
People are retiring and moving to the Bywater.

I wasn't comparing the unique qualities of the cities, sheesh. It was a sarcastic response to the "it has history" phrase. Calm down guys, Nola is 10x more unique than Bham.

Best time to go to NOLA is in the winter and right after a rain to clean the piss and puke from the streets. Winter keeps a lot of the DEMOCRATS indoors too!

That woulda been a steal. Prices are insane around there now. Pretty much everywhere else.

Christmas time in NOLA is awesome. It is cool but not too cold. The decorations are awesome, lots of lonely single girls, the food seems to taste better when it is cold (that could just be mental though).

Well one of the states has a city that has inspired the works of Tennessee Williams, Truman Capote, Lillian Hellman, William Faulkner, Ann Rice, John Kennedy Toole, Emeril Lagasse, Paul Prudhomme, Owen Brennan, Ruth Fertel, Louis Armstrong, Sydney Bechet, Buddy Bolden, Harry Connick Jr., Fats Domino, Lee Dorsey, Dr. John, Pete Fountain, Clarence "Frogman" Henry, Mahalia Jackson, Wynton and Bradford Marsalis, Louis Prima, The Neville Brothers, Joe "King" Oliver, Irma Thomas, to name a few...not to mention the birthplace of The definitive American art form.
You can love the place or you can hate the place, but it has an unmistakable "it" factor which makes it "population for population", one of the most culturally distinct cities in the western hemisphere.
